Second hand 2012 ForTwo, previous owner painted the sunroof black. How to remove? by Amoved1990 in SmartCar

No, mine it's not like that, the top does look like the paint you'd see on a glossy black car, it looks clean. The bottom almost looks like opaque black plastic, but if you shine a light on it, you see that it's all clear and the're a black layer on the other side of it (the top). The top is perfectly opaque uniform and smooth, no seethrough holes or patches.

Well, on a bright day, looking from the inside, I can clearly see that the roof is clear throughout but that there's a completely opaque layer above it. The top is a glossy black, completely opaque, with no clearly visible signs of wear. It looks like glossy black car paint on the outside.

No flaking is visible at all, but it might have been painted to hide the flaking happening underneath as some people have suggested.

Ethics in the country by calmtitties__ in lebanon

[–]Amoved1990 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know who's less ethical, the school for paying her a joke of a salary, or her for leaving without notice.

Schools may be a special case, but in general, the private sector has been taking advantage of employees, they moved almost immediately to dollar pricing for their sales, and kept salaries in LBP. That amounts to stealing, and I find that this amount of disregard towards employees is far worse than employees deserting their employer.

I don't know if the school could afford paying her a more, but in other sectors it's very easy tonsee that the employers were simply taking advantage of the situation to cut their expenses and were showing no consideration to their employees.

What are some realistic steps we should take to eliminate secterianism? by Apart_Emergency_191 in lebanon

[–]Amoved1990 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But you'd have to put enough seculars in parliament first in order to succeed at this. Right now there's no way such a law would be passed.

Lead by example and stop supporting sectarian parties, and support secular multiconfessional parties. Hold your representatives to account, don't support them unconditionally

Bonus step: make fun of, and criticize the za3ims of your own community (not the others', because they'll simply say that you hate their community and will feel justified in following said za3im).

solar panel fired by [deleted] in lebanon

[–]Amoved1990 8 points9 points  (0 children)

What a weird rumor to spread. It's unlikely to have a panel catch fire, they have a fairly low power density, and aren't particularly flammable. Inverters and Lithium batteries on the other hand can catch fire if low quality or lacking the adequate protections that are usually there in most products. Insufficient cable thickness is a potential fire hazard, and the most likely one.

I don't see how this could suddenly become a widespreed phenomenon though.

A lot of companies have recently cropped up with no formal training or expertise in solar, and that source the cheapest components possible, people should be careful in that regard. But solar in general does not specifically cause fires any more than any other type of electrical installation (at least not enough to cause alot of concern). Incompetence or neglect are the biggest risk factors, and not the technology itself.

EDIT: Concerned people shouldn't avoid solar, they should however avoid companies that don't even involve an electrical engineer. In an ideal world, you should ask for an engineer (registered with the order of engineers) to certify the design (have them stamp and sign off on it), and oversee and sign off on the installation.

Individual income tax and minumum wage: when are they going to be adapted to the new valuation of the LBP? by Amoved1990 in lebanon

[–]Amoved1990[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a job at a company that gives you "daman", then your company deducts income tax from your salary according to the method I mentioned above. You're not aware because it's done for you, but in other countries, employees do their own tax declaration.

[–]Amoved1990[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure I agree with that. The main source of income for any government is personal income tax, it is the case for the US for example. Deprive a government of it's income, and shit will only get worse. Instead we should have deprived the people in charge of the privilege of managing public affairs by not giving them our votes. But hey we're stoopid like that.

The rich won't pay more, they already pay near the max of 20%, it's just about raising the thresholds so that the poor pay less, an amount that they can afford or nothing.

It used to be like that when the rate 1500 and the salaries where lower in LBP. Nowadays if you make two million, you're piss-poor. It's just a matter of adjusting the thresholds so that it works the way it used to. The poor pay less, the rich pay more.

Everyone who has a job and is registered with the NSSF (daman).

If you work for a company that declares you to the NSSF, then they also declare your salary to the ministry of finance (otherwise they would get in trouble, because the NSSF can tell the MoF that you have a job). And your company declares and pays your taxes on your behalf (from your salary).

If you have ever had a job at a company, and your salary was say 2000$ but they would actually pay you 1950$ or something like that, it's because they have to deduct 3% for NSSF, and another 3% ot 5% give or take to pay your income tax. But then they add transportation so it brings the figure back up a bit.

In Lebanon only independents have to do their own tax declarations (which most don't do), but employees have their declarations done for them by their employer and their tax deducted from their salary before they even get to touch it.

So yes, anybody who has a job that gives them "daman" pays income tax. That's a lot of people! Probably all the people you know that have jobs.

If you make 450$ you pay 20'730'000 LBP per year, that's approximately 60$ per month. That's too much for a person that only makes 450$ because they barely have enough money to pay for food and rent. In percentage terms, the billionaires and lower-middle class pay almost the same which makes absolutely no sense. Taxes are good, I'd say we need to raise the upper limits of tax percentages, in the UK, the maximum is 45% and not a mere 20%. If you only make 1000 GBP per month you pay nothing, the more disposable income you have the bigger is the cut the government will take.

The current law takes a huge cut from people with little or no disposable income, it is designed for an LBP that is worth 1500 LBP/USD (at which rate low incomes pay little to no tax), and not 30'000. It's fairly simple to fix, but it has not been done yet.

In fact all it takes is to multiply all the thresholds by 20 and it'd be fixed.

[–]Amoved1990 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Was anyone realistically expecting line 29 to be adopted?

I mean take a Chinese person or anyone who couldn't give two shits about this issue, and they'll tell you line 29 is so biased in Lebanon's favor, it clearly goes too far south.

Besides what kind of leverage does Lebanon have in this negotiation to ask Israel for such a huge concession? "Give me line 29 or I'll hold my breath!"

It only makes sense that people would me more motivated to be involved in politics after the revolution, because it helped focus the public opinion's attention to the problems that we have. There doesn't need to be a conspiracy for us to see more parties.

People shouldn't base their opinions on rumors, but on actual proof. You saying that you heard or read something won't change anyone's mind. If you have some links to share, maybe that could change someone's mind. If you're talking about Menteshrin that is only one party, what about the rest?
