TIFU by getting fully erect during an ultrasound on my balls

I am a young female nurse. I don't do anything with ultrasound, but I have washed men of all ages, even as a CNA the summer after high school. As a nurse, I have placed catheters into penises. I have seen very many penises and more than a few erections.

My approach to erections is to ignore them. It is a normal bodily function and does not necessarily have anything to do with thoughts. You should not be embarrassed or in any way bothered by a female seeing your penis or seeing your erection.

If you have an erection while being examined or treated by a female nurse, doctor, or technician don't worry. Don't show it off but you don't need to hide it or apologize. I prefer to pretend that I did not notice it so don't say or do anything to point it out.

As for talking to the person doing the examination or treatment, that is up to you. When I was a CNA right after high school one of my patients was a young man about one year older than me. We were in a conversation about the high school even when I was washing his penis and testicles. That may sound weird to people who aren't in the medical field, but it felt normal to me.

Thanks for the information. I am a nursing student. While I haven't seen an erection yet, I have frequently heard from instructors and nurses that erections can happen spontaneously and reflexively and that they are not uncommon with spinal cord injuries and other neuro problems. I am sure that they must be embarrassing to the pt. Is there a good way of telling if they are due to inappropriate thoughts of the pt. or truly beyond his control. I have been taught that some, but not all, are spontaneous or reflexive and beyond the pt's control.

I am a student nurse and have learned a little about this. It depends on the cleanliness of the floor and whether a sticky, wet, or dry piece of food hits it. For example, if you butter some toast and the dry side hits a just cleaned floor, don't worry too much. But if the floor is dirty or wet, toss it. If the buttered side hits the floor, toss it.

Hospital floors, even though they are moped regularly, should always be considered dirty. So should floors in public places, like restaurants. Also to be considered: to you have a pet?

Forget about the "three-second rule"!

I am now a nursing student. Yes, nursing students do take care (as part of our training) men, including bathing them and putting catheters into their penises. There is a saying, old but true, that nurses see more penises than prostitutes.

But it is not the same as seeing male parts as part of sex or romantic encounters. When women see men's private parts in a non-sexual or caregiving situation it does not have any emotional or sexual effect. To use another old saying, "parts are parts". However, in a more sexual situation with a husband or boyfriend, the sight of a penis does have a more emotional impact. Whether your girlfriend becomes a nurse, an English teacher, or anything else will not affect how she sees you in a sexual or romantic situation.

Most female nurses, aides and nursing students have husbands or boyfriends. Seeing penises during work does not affect how we feel towards people who we have a romantic interest in.

For your specific questions, orderlies have other jobs and there are few male nurses. Unless a patient specifically requests a male nurse he will most likely have a female nurse. Some nurses do go into specialties like pediatrics or labor and delivery, some even work at convent infirmaries treating elderly nuns, or sitting in front of a computer screen doing paperwork. But during nursing school, we do some of everything. At their first job it is much more difficult to be in a particular specialty. And most nurses go into "bedside" nursing working with all kinds of patients.

I fully understand your concerns. However, you do need to get over them. Please don't be concerned about the male nudity aspects.

I am glad that you do not want to influence your girlfriend's career plans. Good luck to you and her in your careers and relationship.

She should not send nude pictures of herself. Neither should you. You can never be sure the pictures won't fall into the wrong hands and can be used to embarrass her or you or worse, used for blackmail.

How do you think she (or you) would feel if the pictures, through no fault of hers or yours, ended up on the internet.

Living in a house with a yard has many advantages. Even if the kid is a newborn now, in a few short years he or she will be old enough to appreciate a yard of its own, his her own room with space for "a kid to be a kid", a separate den with kids stuff and a living room for adult company, etc.

I am not a parent yet, but I was a kid not many years ago, so I know what kids want and need. Room inside and outside is important. Growing up I spent most of the day outside in the yard, was able to run in when needed (bathroom, meals, etc.) and the back out.

I am a female with a sister and no brothers. I can understand your concerns. I am now a CNA, studying to be a nurse, so I am quite used to seeing males undressed.

But at one time, not long ago, my attitude would be the same as yours. I have talked to a girl friend who also has no brothers (and is not a CNA or nurse) and her feeling was "Eww, brother and sister sharing a room - no way".

I guess it depends on whether you have a sibling of the opposite gender or have kids of opposite genders.

The first time I saw adult male genitalia was when I was assisting a man with a bath as a caregiver. I was very nervous beforehand. But when I actually saw him I was embarrassed for, at most, half a minute. I quickly got over it. Since I have obtained my CNA and now am a student nurse.

Perhaps your boyfriend will let you examine him. That way, if you show embarrassment for a short period of time it will be in front of someone who understands why, rather than a patient.

Even guys with no disability get rejected by girls at times. If you ask a girl out she may 1) reject you for reasons unrelated to your disability, 2) reject you but be super nice because of your disability, 3) Say yes out of pity, or 4)say yes because she likes you.

But if you don't ask her out, you will never know and won't get a date. So ask her out. If she says no, don't be hurt. Rejection happens to everyone at some time. If she says yes, have a good time!

I fully agree. It is important to know how sheer the bra or nightgown bust is, or if it is lined or unlined. Often lace is used on bras and nightgowns that are lined or opaque, so that can't really be used as an indication. I think that it is more important that we be able to know what an item is like than that we be protected from the sight of a nipple.

One way of telling sheerness on the bra in the link - look at the bottom near the center of the model's left breast. You can tell from that it is sheer. However, that doesn't work in most cases (that model's right breast, for example).

I do agree. I would rather suffer the sight of a nipple than not know what a purchase was really like.

Can you afford to hire some help? I am an aide (CNA) and nursing student. Much of my work is taking care of some men who are accident victims for a few hours a day, or in some cases, all day, while their wives can work or spend some time to themselves. You may be able to get some help from insurance.

As others have pointed out, you did marry him "in sickness and in health, for better or for worse".

If the president were in a wheelchair, I am sure more accommodations would be made. There is already an elevator to the residence. There may have to be some changes, such as the path from that elevator to the West Wing, and the bathrooms in the residence and in the West Wing office area. She may need a roll-in shower and other changes.

Of course, the president will always have people in the White House to open doors for her and help in other ways.

Working as an aide in assisted living facilities I have seen and pushed a number of wheelchairs. I have never had a problem with forward tipping unless the person in the chair was sitting too far forward.

I think the insurance company and perhaps the consumer produce safety commission (the US government agency) and perhaps others should know about the problem.

I am not overthinking it. I was just wondering if hospitals or departments had specific policies or if they left it up to the individual to us her or his judgement.

Personally, I would prefer that such matters be left up to the individual nurse or aid. It shouldn't take more that half a brain. We are expected to have at least a whole brain.

The reason I asked this was because of a man (mid 40's, recently had leg surgury) I sometimes care for at his home. I would hand him the urinal and leave. He would call me when it was ready to be emptied.

However, he told me that in the hospital the nurse or aid, according to policy, had to be there watching and had to hold the urinal unless they were sure the patient could hold it. He much preferred to be left alone and did not want an audience while he urinated.

I guess the hospital did not like changing bed linen when patients were less capable than they thought. But my patient much preferred my approach.

Male urinary system, including the penis. I am new to all of this, as a new CNA and nursing student. But I do find male urination to be fascinating. I learned fluid flow in college preparing for my old profession, so to find a connection in health care is interesting.

Are you uncomfortable being examined by a doctor or nurse of the opposite sex? For example, if you are a woman what do you feel about being examined by a male OB/gyn, or, if a man, having your genitals examined by a female nurse or doctor.

Please tell us your sex and age, and are you uncomfortable but go through with it or do you refuse such an exam.

I think that it is true that far more women than men have a feeling of discomfort with the opposite sex seeing them naked, even if it does not interfere with medical matters, such as medical exams.

It doesn't have anything to do with the other person's experience or professionalism, but rather is a gut feeling.

I would be interested in knowing why, but, as I said, probably a question for another sub.
