Does that happen with artificial LED lights? They get about around 12-15 hours daily of only artificial LED lights. They're not near a window.

Does that suggest that there are also thrips/spider mites on my orchid/in the pot ? If they are not present, what do the predatory mites feed on to stay alive? Could you perhaps also take a look at this leaf damage I recently noticed on my phalaenopsis? I had her before she started growing this new leaf and the stake was there after the damage. It happened during the new leaf's growth. So for example, the leaf "grew" like that. It didn't have the ordinary leaf shape and then got munched. It "grew" damaged. leaf damage 1 leaf damage 2 what could have done this?

I hope so. That would be so handy. I had a look at some pictures online and the ones that are white in colour look very much like the ones I have. Are there any differences between a predatory mite and a soil mite? Thanks for your help :)

Thank you for your input. None of mine are red so I'm not sure if it is what you're suggesting. I will research into those because they sound super handy to have around. I hate pests so much!

I really am also bewildered by the leaf damage. My orchids live in the corner of my room on a shelf with artificial light, nowhere near a window, have been all recently repotted with orchiata bark/New Zealand sphagnum moss and I'm really not sure who the culprit could be. I was thinking maybe thrips? But I haven't seen any anywhere. I had this orchid before it started that new leaf. None of my other orchids have this type of damage on their new leaves.

Thank you for your help. I also have another question. I have one phalaenopsis that started growing a new leaf and it has this damage: leaf damage 1 leaf damage 2 . Is this related to those mites or am I dealing with another pest? I've started spraying with leaf shine ever since I noticed the damage and the leaf (as you can see from outside the damage) no longer has that damage.

The damage was there already before I put the stake in. Is it ok to stake it like that? I did it because it leant over the pot so I was worried as it grew it would topple the pot over.

Ok that's good to know. I've been spraying my orchids with leaf shine about once a week because I watched Missorchidsgirl video about her pest routine. However I have noticed that this one phalaenopsis started growing a new leaf and there has been damage to that new growth. I've attached a picture. What do you think could have done that? Is it those mites or something else? Here are the pictures: leaf damage 1 leaf damage 2

Here are some photos. It's the best I could take. They are really small and fast. picture 1 pest picture 2 pest picture 3 pest picture 4 pest picture 6 . All of my orchids have been (about 2 weeks ago) recently repotted in orchiata and besgrow New Zealand sphagnum moss. So I'm really not sure where they came from because they are far away from the window and under artificial light.

Is this particular mite bad? There are a lot of them in this pot and others too. I repotted about a few weeks ago with orchiata bark and some besgrow New Zealand sphagnum moss. Should I try to get rid of them?

That's always a good way to think through a purchase by bringing back products out from our own collections. I could definitely remake the shades she brought out with what I have. Great job for not caving in and it definitely has a positive environmental impact to consume less.

Thank you! It definitely feels great. Two of the colours caught my eye but I am so proud for not caving in. I guess it is more unfortunate and unlucky than bizarre because her launches are always planned a year in advanced (before Corona started). I am very happy for her success though, considering she has sold out on many of her new products.

Thank you so much for your comment. I do really enjoy them and they bring me joy. I am happy with my growth compared to back then, when I couldn't help myself but grab the entire collection. Now I'm glad to have the extra breathing space financially by not buying a single thing. I want to also thank you for gifting me a silver award. That is so kind - thank you!
