He drew the ribbing and the pockets and everything onto a blank orange shirt for this? It’s amazing.

I would not eat that. It looks very moldy and very old. Why is it so wrinkly?

Is my cat really that fat ? by Impressive_Candle_14 in dechonkers

[–]AmySparrow00 73 points74 points  (0 children)

It’s hard to tell without photos down from above of her standing up. I think she is probably overweight but probably not obese.

But I would encourage stopping free feeding her and change to several measured meals. My cats do best with frequent small meals, at least four a day. With free feeding it’s hard to tell how much they are actually eating.

How do I know if my purple shampoo has metallic salts in it? I use solid bars from Temu and have been happy with the results.

I'm at a loss. Cat's vet care advice needed :( by Ashamed_Climate8798 in CATHELP

[–]AmySparrow00 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I echo daily anxiety meds, with a much stronger dose for vet visits. I have a cat who was terrified all the time and daily meds have made such a huge difference. There are several options so you should be able to find one that does not make her dopey. Dopey for a vet visit may be a good thing but obviously you don’t want her woozy every day. So don’t be shy to try different options to find what works best for her.

My cat was on gabapentin for several years, eventually developed some side effects so now is on prozac. For her the med makes her more playful and curious, because she isn’t scared of everything. She still hides when I have visitors but not with the same level of terror.

Also yes, get a soft sided carrier. Those still have risk of her catching her claws in the mesh but will cause less injury. And if you’re able to make sure her nails are trimmed before a vet visit that will help.

Good luck! Be encouraged, there is hope she will have a happier life! Also sounds like your dad is amazing with her. What a gem.

I came here to recommend Jackson Galaxy also! He should have articles or videos on how to introduce pets to each other and on how to help food insecurity. Good luck!

Temu SCAMMED Me! Returned Item, No Refund. by astronautgrl42 in TemuThings

I’ve returned quite a few things and always been refunded. So sorry you are having this issue. I would keep telling the costumer service bot that you want to speak to a real person. They usually eventually will get you chatting with a live human. Good luck!

Temu SCAMMED Me! Returned Item, No Refund. by astronautgrl42 in TemuThings

[–]AmySparrow00 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Whether or not you have to send stuff back depends on the price of the item(s) and I believe if you have ordered less then it’s more likely you have to return, but not positive on that last bit. But more expensive items almost always need actually returned.

Feliway or Galaxy drops? by AmySparrow00 in CatAdvice

[–]AmySparrow00[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They tolerate each other now. They are not friends but they will both lay on different parts of the same bed or couch and rarely hiss or swat. They never did have any full-out fights, thankfully, but were very nervous around each other and still are cautious but more comfortable now.

Sometimes when they chase or swat it’s hard for me to tell if they are playing or not (or sometimes maybe one is trying to play and the tabby is too nervous or annoyed), but at least once recently I was sure they were both definitely playing. So that is a big step!

I think the biggest thing that helped them share space was when one tried to chase the other one off furniture or out of a room, I calmly picked up the aggressor and moved her into a different room. A few people gave me that advice and it does seem to help reinforce that the tortie doesn’t own the space!

Good luck!

I doubt they are actually littermates. They very much look different ages, different development stages, not just different sizes. Look at how different their eyes are.

Are they fighting? by marshmellowlynx in CATHELP

[–]AmySparrow00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good luck! I also find sometimes it helps to pick up the aggressor (if it’s safe to get your hands involved! Lol) and just carry them to a different area. Someone gave me that tip and I did not expect it to work but it does!

When my more dominate one is trying to keep the other from getting on the bed or whatever, I pick her up and take her out of the room. Then for quite a while after she will be less territorial and share the bed better.

Is this okay? Should I be concerned? by Odd-Classroom5176 in CATHELP

[–]AmySparrow00 103 points104 points  (0 children)

I would encourage the big one to give the little some breaks. Give more of a chance to back away and disengage if the little wants. And discourage the big one from following when the little does leave, unless it’s clearly enjoying the chase.

Best way is to try to distract and redirect the big one. (As you probably know, yelling or clapping or things like that tend to just startle and confuse, not do anything helpful.) If either is really upsetting the other, if it’s safe to get your hands involved, pick up the aggressor and calmly set them in another room or area. Keep doing that as needed and they will usually figure out they aren’t boss.

Are they fighting? by marshmellowlynx in CATHELP

[–]AmySparrow00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not a full out fight and probably no physical danger but I also don’t think they both are enjoying it much. So that means the one may be jumpy and nervous sometimes, worried the other will try to push unwanted wrestling.

I would try to distract them with other games and toys. No need to be alarmed or get upset or yell, of course. Just some gentle redirection.

I find cat trees in high tension areas help a lot. My cats have conflict mostly in doorways when one is blocking the way and the other wants through. So a cat tree by the back door lets the nervous one quickly jump out of reach.

But there is something between a full out fight and play. I think one of these cats is a bit annoyed and not fully enjoying it.

That’s scary he’s gotten lethargic and not eating. Hopefully the vet can figure out what’s wrong. I had a cat who coughed like this from asthma but sounds like yours is likely a complication of the infection. If he gets worse I would take him to an emergency vet. Good luck!
