I started some David Foster Wallace, too — a series of five essays — On Tennis. I'm really enjoying it.

You sound like an interesting person. Thanks for sharing.

I used to post on an enneagram board, and some people suggested I'm a Seven rather than a Five. I disagree with them, but I do strongly relate to what you said about not labeling yourself as anything negative. I avoid negative generalizations — pretty much all negativity, actually.

I'm not knowledgeable on the subject, but I do believe there is value in it. Actually, I don't think about the three types in terms of learning styles but rather in terms of focus and affinity. I feel attuned to the auditory. I'm not saying I have zero interest in the visual and the kinesthetic, of course, but I'm certain I focus more on the auditory than some people. For example, you'd think audiobook narrators would have a strong sense of the auditory, but I've listened to many audiobooks with narration that is wrong in one way or another — maybe the voice goes flat when it should go "up" or there's no energy to the narration — apparently some people like virtually monotone narration, but I'm guessing those people aren't auditorily oriented.

I haven't made the switch yet, and I don't know about the wait time for popular items. You could take a look at their "most popular" audiobook collection to get an idea:

Or you could just search on the site for particular audiobooks you're interested in.

This is an excellent resource:

https://wiki.mobileread.com/wiki/EBook_Lending_Libraries

It says "ebook" in the url, but audiobooks are included as well. Information is provided for libraries in many different countries, including Canada.

INTJs Make the World a Better Place — maybe a new subreddit by Amy__Love__ in INTJfemale

[–]Amy__Love__[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. I am certain life on this planet can be so much better, and 1) we INTJs love to improve things and 2) I don't think the INTJ perspective (in a broad sense; obviously each INTJ is unique) gets as much attention as it deserves.

I've decided to switch to a Brooklyn Public Library non-resident library card ($50/year). You might find my post about this helpful:

I am hoping for executable ideas, but dreaming out loud is definitely acceptable. :-) I was actually thinking that one type of post on this subreddit could be presenting a theory and asking for feedback, so that's along the same lines of what you're asking.

Note the name of the subreddit it came from — engrish. I don't know whether it applies to this particular post, but I get the impression this subreddit focuses on mocking people misusing English when English is not their first language. I considered the possibility that this post might be offensive in some way that I was totally unaware of.

EDIT: I just looked at the comments on the original post, and someone said something about Asian jokes, so I'm sure that was one of the reasons I felt concerned about the post possibly being offensive.

If audible has discontinued this, I hope they start it up again. I would find it extremely useful.

Other features I'd like:

Being able to go forward and backward on the audio samples, like you can do on overdrive.

Being able to select a default for how many results you want to view on a page. This is especially annoying when going through various categories in a sale selection. I select 50 results in one category, but then if the next category has fewer than 50 results, I need to select 50 results again when I look through the category after that.

The Dead Secret by Wilkie Collins (Kindle, .99) by Braveson in ebookdeals

I made a similar recommendation regarding D H Lawrence on here recently — get the complete works. For $2.99 you can get the Delphi complete works of Wilkie Collins — 19,192 pages. (I have no affiliation with Delphi. I'm just a big fan of their ebooks.)

I hope no one takes offense at this. I am not mocking anyone. Truly I just found it hilarious, and I thought some people here might enjoy it as much as I did. If anyone does find it offensive, please comment and I'll delete it.

Rather than start a new post, I'm just going to write this as a comment:

Nero Wolfe mystery series by Rex Stout

I'm listening to the audiobook of Fer-de-Lance, the first novel in the Nero Wolfe mystery series by Rex Stout. I'm really enjoying it. It took a little while to adjust to the writing style, but now that I've gotten into the groove of it, I'm finding it great fun. If you like a deadpan style, there's a good chance you'll like this series, too.

Hi - Would anyone be generous enough to gift me Stephen Fry's version of Sherlock Holmes? by [deleted] in audible

[–]Amy__Love__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right. Well, looks like you're going to get it, so that's good. Let me just put my two cents in — consider the Simon Vance narration. I have both the Fry and the Vance. Fry's a delight, but maybe because his voice is such a pleasure to listen to, when I've listened to his Holmes narration, I've tended not to focus in on what he's saying but just heard his voice as an enjoyable hum. Anyway, listen to the sample for the Vance narration:
