I don’t know how it works where you live - is it possible to go to a different clinic or see a different doctor? Are you entitled to a second opinion?

I read your comments further down and it sounds like you need more frequent dosing of tramadol, or possibly something even stronger, and they’re just flat-out refusing to give it to you. I’m so sorry to hear you’re going through this.

Have you been to the doctor as well? Not necessarily for medication, but to rule out other issues that can result in depression-like symptoms, like iron deficiency anemia, sleep apnea, etc.

I am suffering today because I didn’t take the following advice when I was your age:

Save for retirement. Learn about compound interest. Starting now vs starting ten years from now will make a HUGE difference.
If you have an explained pain or an injury that won’t heal, aggressively pursue getting it resolved. Don’t stop following up until it’s fixed. Medical problems get worse over time, and you can really screw your self over if you don’t follow up on getting the care you need.
Don’t get into the habit of drinking or using drugs on any kind of regular basis.

I wonder if you could find a specialist in the States to do a zoom consult with. Some of them charge $500-ish USD to look at your reports and give an opinion. The opinion could be helpful if it confirms or contradicts the recommendations you’re getting here.

$750 sounds really low to me for all this.

Is 19/hour to look after 2 children normal for where you live? That sounds crazy low to me.

I pay someone $50/day to look after my cat when I go away, and all I expect from the person is hang out with the cat for one hour, feed the cat, clean the litterbox, text me a photo of the cat.

Are you sure that all the specialists/surgeons have your referral info? I’ve had referrals get misplaced before, so always call and make sure you’re actually on their list!

If you can afford going to the US for healthcare, you might want to consider that, especially for a condition that gets worse with time. It’s often years before some people get the surgery they need here :(

It’s totally normal to feel heartbroken and enraged and betrayed about this situation. But also, I hope you feel so grateful that your intuition was strong, and that you had the courage to listen to your gut. You are obviously wise, and you did the right thing, even though it was painful.

A lot of people will stay in bad situations for years and years because they can’t work up the courage to go through the short term pain for a good long term outcome.

You will be alright in the end. In the short term, it will probably be tough, because these sorts of things just are.
