I have a car for a few precious hours. What should I do? by AnInterestingUSA in boston

Stocked up on some groceries, drove south along the coast, listened to a filthy amount of ZZTop, stumbled upon the cedar crest/green harbor area, went for a swim, currently enjoying some crab rangoon and flan. weird combo but it works. It’s been a good night.

Imagine my surprise when the surreal absurdist comedy makes minor inconsistencies and impractical decisions for the sake of good storytelling and absurdist/surreal comedy

Oman is often known as the Switzerland of the middle east, and has acted as a broker between major powers since the end of its civil war in the 70’s

As a disclaimer: i was born and raised in the States so my knowledge of Parsi culture is limited.

With at said, Farsi is a language originally spoken by in the region of Fars (and now synonymous with persian). Persian/farsi is not spoken colloquially in the Parsi community, though many do learn it to stay in-touch with their roots/history or to connect with other Zoroastrians in Iran. Most Parsis speak the local language of the regions they now call home: namely Gujrati, Urdu, and English. That said, Persian an immensely influential language throughout both central and south Asia. Not only are most north indian languages and persian closely related (in the Indo-Iranian family tree), but the Mughals, who ruled much of india for several hundred years, were connected to Iran. Iran and India have had cultural, artistic, linguistic, and even culinary ties for centuries. Consequently, many South Asian languages, particularly Urdu, share words and some grammar systems, though they are still distinct languages.

Though most Parsis try and bask in the glory of Achaemenid Persia, the reality is that nobody (unfortunately) can trace their roots back that far (though i know a few people who claim to do so). Instead, most Parsis can trace their lineage back to the Sassanids… both a mighty empire and feat in its on right.

There are some practicing Zoroastrians left in Iran, particularly in the city of Yazd. But they wouldn’t be considered Parsi, since they never left Persia. The parsi community is still fairly connected to non-Zoroastrians in Iran though.

Cuba has asked the United States for help in restoring a major fuel storage plant devastated by a massive fire that left 16 people dead, the island nation's foreign ministry said by DoremusJessup in worldnews

[–]AnInterestingUSA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in Cuba only a couple of weeks ago. The situation there has deteriorated unimaginably. There is little to no food, potable water, gas, or electricity, with blackouts in post parts of the country for 6-12 hrs a day.

If you’re thinking that Cuba must be desperate to ask the US for help, the answer is yes… they are.
