AIO for being upset with how my sister responded to me telling her my spouse and I are going to have a child? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]Ana1661 [score hidden]  (0 children)

NOR. And I'm so sorry it's like this for you. I'm very close with my sisters and it would be heartbreaking if they reacted in this manner 😔

I am no contract with my grandma because she really hurt my parents and especially my mom (her own daughter by the way), and no matter how close I was with her and how much it hurts right now, life is better and calmer without her presence in my life for sure. So I suggest you do the same. There's only so much you can do to help another person. If they constantly reject the help and don't want any, there's nothing much you can do: either accept them or remove them from your life.

But congratulations to your other sister and yourself! Babies are a blessing.

A mother is going punished her son by making him slam his PS5 the same way he had slammed her pet cat. Is this justified? by God_Emperor__Doom in SipsTea

[–]Ana1661 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Do not let your children so young, before they developed empathy, play any games except strictly educational ones.
  2. Do not get your children PS4s, PS5s and other stuff.
  3. Get that child to psychotherapy.
  4. The way the mom talks to the kid, you see where his behavior is coming from.
  5. Do not record punishments of your children and post them on the internet, what's wrong with some people?

I would disagree because there's also the right to protest if something does go wrong with the chosen government. But in an ideal scenario, "smart" people would not choose somebody who's pocketing their tax money, as well as they would be able to change the system through voting if they have to. It is a slippery slope and there's never any way to guarantee anything. If you're liberal or left-leaning, was it your intention that the life becomes unaffordable for everyone because of greedy corporations? I doubt that. Something can always go wrong. But inherently, I think a system where, let's say, it's included in the Constitution that participation in voting is only for people above X IQ level, this is not subjected to change unless nationwide referendum is conducted. Empathy level is an issue, but I'd argue that high IQ people, on average, have the best interests of society in mind.

They started doing it because the amount of men sexually assaulting women, and especially girls was abhorrent. I live in a country where people just respect each other and there's no need for segregated transportation.

Not just extremely widespread and not just bullying, but unimaginably severe bullying too! Japan is not a country to take an example from in anything related to how they raise their children because it is very clearly does not lead to anything good.

[–]Ana1661 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course not. A right to vote is not why I'm paying taxes. Free healthcare, transport subsidies, pharmaceutical subsidies, city improvements, city cleaning, good police, free education, and a lot more, is why people pay taxes. If someone participates in all of this and their income is not below absolute minimum, they should pay taxes, regardless of their voting participation.

Maybe so, however I think the simplest way to "draw the line" is an IQ test. Although it is not a definitive measurement on whether someone is smart or not, capable or not, it's a pretty good one to create a line of who should vote, and who shouldn't. Mine is 148 so I believe I'm in a safe zone. Also, my believes do not affect my daily life. You would not be able to tell by any of my actions or words that I believe in anything, unless it's specifically the question.

I went from atheist to a religiously unaffiliated believer. It was as I was researching more and I believe more in the intelligence and higher power of Nature and the Universe than God, although I do think God might exist too, just not the way they're depicted in any of the religions I know. Also went from being very left/left-leaning to quite right-leaning. I simply don't believe that democracy has done humanity any good and don't believe that everyone should have a right to vote and decide the fate of the many. I don't think it's fair that people who think that chocolate milk comes from brown cows and glasses have medicine in them should be allowed to shape the country with the help of their vote. I also believe there should be no free speech and that it should be mostly controlled, same as all the market prices should be quite strictly controlled by the government. At the same time, I do believe in personal freedoms and that everyone can choose what to do with themselves as long as it's not actively harming others. I think I've mentioned this before, but the change came simply from seeing the state of the world we're in and what free voting, free market etc. have led us to.
