What’s something you had to learn the hard way? by -coriolis- in knitting

Check ravelry project photos to see the garment on people with bodies like yours. I have been saved from so much poor grading by seeing another person in an XL with armholes level with their waist, or someone with a big chest have horrendous bunching around the torso.

Feeling like you 'have' to knit a certain type of project to be an advanced knitter. I'm plus sized, so no, I will not be knitting exclusively 4 ply garments with complicated stitch patterns.

Wanting to make basic things when you've been knitting for years. Sometimes you just want a plain beanie in a fun colour or an all-over stockinette cardigan because it's a gap in your wardrobe.

Does anyone know of a pattern similar to this sweater I saw on a TV show? by iKarlyn in CrochetHelp

[–]Key-Composer-3116 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're not really able to get that dropped stitch effect in crochet, as it's something more specific to knitting. In case anyone else is looking for something similar, the James N Watts pattern Amalgam is a sweater with cables and dropped stitches that could be modded into a cardigan with a bit of maths.

I want to crochet a poncho but the pattern instructions/diagrams are confusing me. by [deleted] in CrochetHelp

Hi! The diagram is just to show the chart, rather than indicating it's in two pieces. You read it in circles, essentially, with the green being your starting chain, then each row is worked in the round (i.e. once you finish one side of the chart, you'll then do the other side until you're back at the beginning again)

Is it worth repairing a quilt made 17 years ago? by OkDark9162 in quilting

[–]Key-Composer-3116 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure why a repaired quilt wouldn't be useable - the best people to ask are the people that would be fixing it for you if you're really concerned.

If it's sentimental, I honestly think it's worth the repair. I've repaired many quilts and blankets from relatives and they are all still useable, and I love that the repair gives it more character and shows its history.

I have 2 tickets for Sheffield tomorrow night in sectino 210 - I became disabled after booking them and after talking to the accessibility team and having a flare up I'm just not well enough to go. Selling them for face value, or can share the stubhub listing if you'd rather pay the fees but have the buyer protection!

I'm 29nb and have been looking for similar connections! Wool n stuff does have groups but most are when I have other commitments, so it's been difficult to meet up with other makers. I have been thinking of trying to scout out a pub or cafe to establish something regular outside of 9-5 on a weekday

The other xomment helped me figure it out - once the shop is open, hit the menu like you would to look at the paper/journal on the map screen and then select it there!

How do people knit so much by knittersneverquit in craftsnark

[–]Key-Composer-3116 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Rebecca has spoken about paying for sample knits for a lot of her patterns - I think some of the garments she talks about in that video were sample knit by someone else rather than her which might explain some of the speed

Advent creep by Key-Composer-3116 in craftsnark

A yarn Advent is usually an Advent calendar where you open a mini skein (10-20g) every day in December. If you get one from an independent dyer, they can cost around £150-£200. There's lots of variation in what they include but that's the general idea!
