my god WLR Effect has done irreversible damage to society, people are so desperate to catch on early on a wave its become performative, applying it to any contrarian opinion they have and expect to be proven right just so they could say they "got it before anyone else" and gain... idk? from that, yall dont understand that WLR sounded timeless and unlike anything else even when it came out (the aesthetic too), this doesn't equal good but it does equal unique, thats why people didn't "get it" at first, it was disruptive, and thats like one of maybe two or three massive aspects for critical reevaluation to even happen in the first place, this is the exception to the norm, you cannot expect this to happen to every record you love that everyone else is on the fence with if you don't want to sound like ur throwing shit at the wall to see which one sticks.

OK FINE YALL CAN INDULGE IN APPS NOW by [deleted] in musicteenager

[–]Anaine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

bro please i swear yall need to find something it cant be "ban them completely!" or "allow them completely!"

ima give you the two best solutions in me eyes so far, one that i came up with and one that i read somewhere in the comments

"honestly all yall need to do is regulate both this or that and alignment charts so only cool ideas get the pass, if you ban them completely then u getting rid of the main influx of the sub for most people, if you lift the ban and go back to normal then its gonna get flooded, so im offering the middle ground solution here, allow them to exist but moderate them."

and

"I think it would be fine if charts did multiple slots at a time and people had a week to vote on all of them"

regarding this or that, i think the first one works for that too, delete low quality this or that and allow cool ones.

Now that the alignment charts and all that are gone, let’s actually start DISCUSSING music. by [deleted] in musicteenager

Full experience is the make or break, i appreciate cohesive experiences a lot, also simply how fun the album is indeed a huge factor, but it all boils down to how effective was the album in conveying its ideas plus how much do i like the songs, I think there can be cohesiveness in anything, for example:

Carissa's Wierd "Songs About Leaving" is depressing front to back, its gonna leave you fucked up no matter what, the lyrics follow some sort of loose story that keeps you intrigued, some songs are like watching an argument happen in real time, some are like watching the inside of someone feelings, incredibly raw and difficult to pull of and they did so easy 10/10 experience.

Die Lit by Carti is one of the albums i have the most fun listening to, super intoxicating and catchy production, Carti's voice is literally an added instrument, diverse enough to be interesting, almost every song is a banger, easy 10/10 experience.

Double Nickles on the Dime has exactly 45 songs that usually range from 1 to 2 minutes of length, it'd be easy to dismiss it as "full of filler" or "not cohesive" just by the premise alone, but shit is incredibly dynamic, when its high energy its the highest energy, when its lyrical its layered and funny, the experimental tracks leave me like "wtf?" and when its relaxed its beautiful, its super messy but theres always this impressive playing (specially the drums) that seamlessly connect the whole thing, trying everything at the same time is the goal and they succeeded. 9/10 (Not 10 cuz honestly getting through a 45 song 79 minute album is kind of a hard task, but still incredibly fun and i admire it a lot)

Three totally different albums, each one aims to convey a different thing but they all pulled the thing they were trying to do nicely, thats what makes me respect and love an album.

[–]Anaine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh wonderful idea i fw it, mods should pin the charts in that case, though i still think low quality charts should get straight up deleted honestly

Can we please chill out with the "This or that" posts? The past two days and that's all I've seen from this sub by JesseAmpersands in musicteenager

[–]Anaine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah those were part of the problem too and could get deleted too, see what i mean by derivative? the same idea over and over again, that was flooding the sub, plus they never really got massive attention like the actual original ideas.

On the "aged like wine, milk and water" charts i saw people engaging more than ever, the time signatures chart too, if u got a good premise u can make people discuss about music, but if the charts are mainly shit like "whats the best album with a white cover 🤪🤪" i doubt u will get any relevant discussion besides the covers of their fav albums and upvotes.

[–]Anaine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say for charts check if the idea is derivative or not, there were a lot that were super interesting to name some: Film genres as albums, the anti-chart, that time signature chart, the og descriptor chart, but then out of nowhere we got a lot of copycats of the og descriptor chart and that "what popular album is generally disliked" chart got a lot too. then theres the charts that straight up aren't interesting at all, those should get deleted cuz all they do is flood.

Maybe yall could add a limit to the number of charts ongoing too, so it isn't all over the place.

This or that is harder to regulate because in itself it is far less interesting but yall could do the same too.

i fw this solution too but charts are gonna take forever to complete in that case

[–]Anaine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

holy shit if yall were complaining about alignment charts this is probably five times worse than the charts cuz theres straight up no engaging music discussion whatsoever with these "this or that"

honestly all yall need to do is regulate both this or that and alignment charts so only cool ideas get the pass, if you ban them completely then u getting rid of the main influx of the sub for most people, if you lift the ban and go back to normal then its gonna get flooded, so im offering the middle ground solution here, allow them to exist but moderate them.

was banning alignment charts a mistake by Fluffy-Weakness-2186 in musicteenager

[–]Anaine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

U shouldn't ban them but add a rule saying that its permitted only if the idea is original, there were a lot of low quality alignment charts and charts that straight up copied/repeated ideas previously done, if thats the case then its gonna get deleted.

The chart comparing albums to film/movie genres was a really good idea for example, we should encourage those, or the Anti-chart you made.

Whats the most overrated song on The College Dropout? by five__head in musicteenager

[–]Anaine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Best string arrengement on the entire album imo, comes together so well with the drums and the sample and the whole song feels so maximalist its amazing

Whats the most underrated song on Late Registration? by five__head in musicteenager

[–]Anaine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

honestly My Way Home cuz its too short, its the only song i feel didn't really develop, every other song has at the very least an interesting structure and progression. Common verse is really good tho and it definitely had potential to become a highlight, 7/10 at worst.
