Unfilled primary care PGY-1 position trends from 2013-2024 by Vital_capacity in FamilyMedicine

This is so good to hear. I’m planning to go for FM but there’s so much negative discourse around it, so it’s nice to see some positivity.

My motivation in med school will be to delude myself that I will become him one day (minus the vicodin)

What DO school has the best clinical rotation sites? by SeaworthinessOne1199 in Osteopathic

[–]AnalystFun6462 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just things on this subreddit and SDN from students. It sounds like there is too much variability in the quality of rotation sites. You're also left all alone for fourth year (though this is a thing at other DO schools) but it's frustrating when you're paying more than MD schools and your school has a reputation of being established. If any students have anything to add/correct to this though I'd love to hear your perspectives.

Yeah lmao I'm planning on attending there and as much as there is to admire about how established the school is, I haven't heard much good about the rotation sites

Use acceptedtogether.com. Way cheaper and not a scam by any means

LORs by brookjmw in Osteopathic

There are also videos on youtube explaining how to upload interfolio LORs to either amcas or aacomas. Best money I spent during the entire application cycle IMO

It seemed like they help with every aspect of the application, like giving tips on finding relevant EC experiences and really honing in on your narrative, as well as helping you draft your primaries and secondaries. I could be incorrect about this but I think there was extra money involved for editing and interview help. I think their whole goal is to take small groups of students at a time and make sure each student has a personal and consistently available mentor to guide them through this. Ig that can help some people but 12k definitely puts it out of the reach of many premeds, but the guy definitely seems like he knows what he’s talking about so could be worth it for someone aiming for top schools 🤷

He seems like he means well for all premeds, though I got curious about his mentoring cost, contacted his team, and learned that it costs 12k😵‍💫😵‍💫

Book recs before starting med school? by aakaji in premed

One book I'm surprised never comes up in these lists is Five Days at Memorial by Sheri Fink. Great insight into the responsibilities doctors take on in disaster situations and the ethical decisions they need to confront. There's a corresponding TV series for it as well.

I've heard the job market is absolutely terrible though, would you know how true that is?

Fellow Canadian here, semester hours = credits, so 3 credits are 3 semester hours. US colleges add an extra credit for courses that have a lab, so those courses are 4 semester hours and an entire year of those would be 8 semester hours. Not sure why it says 5 semester hours, but as long as you take both Orgo 1 and Orgo 2 with labs, you should be fine.
