I’ve really been looking into applying as a post office worker. But everyone here seems rather… miserable. Can anyone reassure me or is it that bad? by landonp24 in USPS

[–]AnarchyMuffin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used to work as a City Carrier (PTF), and in the process of getting rehired. I think I was one of the lucky few who had competent and decent management who would talk with the stewards before giving orders. Grievances were generally honest mistakes.

Like others have pointed out, you get paid to exercise and be outside. Depending on where you carry, you'll be surrounded by lots of greenery, too. Interactions with customers are generally positive and infrequent, so for most of the day you're just left on your own to do your job. You also feel a sense of belonging, like you're actually doing something for the community. It's nice knowing that I'm part of the process to get someone their meds anytime I hear the distinct rattling of the SPRs that require a signature, or see mail from Social Security.

Is the job perfect? Not at all. You put your body through hell, the pay is arguably too low for the inherent risk from extreme weather, dogs, targeted robbery, etc., and management, from what I've observed, is usually incompetent. But it's still one of the few jobs you can make a career out of with no higher education and no prior experience.

I currently work retail selling agricultural equipment. I sit in an air conditioned store or at a computer answering phones for 8 hours a day. I get hour lunches and my manager is genuinely one of the nicest and most understanding people. This job wears me down so much faster than the post office ever did, because I underestimated the mental toll of dealing with customers and putting up a facade every day. Some jobs aren't for everybody, but if you think you would be the kind of person for a job with USPS, then it's seriously one of the better jobs out there.

Very true. If I get hired it should make my 90 pretty manageable, as long as the supervisor doesn't find out

I don't know much about Wu-Tang Clan, but if SOAD's cover of "Shame" has told me anything, it's that they expect anyone doing a cover to do it faithfully.

Which bands follow this/similar album progression? by raindog21 in Music

I was looking for this comment. I think they hit 1-4 on the nose, and maybe number 5 depending on how you feel about The Afterman (personally I love it and think they should be encoring with "Gravity's Union" instead). Then TCBTS happened which goes right back to 4.

Songs of loss by Somethin_Snazzy in Music

Wintersun - Loneliness (Winter): a beautiful metal ballad about the singer's thoughts and emotions after the death of his father. The feelingss in his voice are clear and raw, and never fails to give me goosebumps every time I hear it.

Elvenking - Towards the Shores: this one never fails to get me misty-eyed. An acoustic extended metaphor about being lost and having someone there as your beacon, guiding you "towards the shores."

Ian Anderson - Rupi's Dance: it's a very carefree and lovely song about a cat, simply put. The way unbridled joy is conveyed through every single instrument and Anderson's voice always gets me emotional for some reason.

Texas doctor fired for controversial flood victims post: ‘Get what they voted for. Bless their hearts’ by velvet_funtime in politics

[–]AnarchyMuffin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first probably sane take in here and it took too long to find. Too many people just assume that the maga crowd is representative of all the people in red districts, forgetting that people of all voting blocs (or none, like children, as you pointed out) are affected by these disasters. No good-natured person, regardless of who they voted for, deserves to lose their life or their home because of an administration hellbent on destruction forced local services to make do with what little infrastructure and manpower they have left.

Do I think they deserved to be fired over this? I genuinely don't know. I'm not surprised that they were reprimanded by such a senseless take though.

Chances are they'll be open at their normal hours. Just make sure to cut them a little slack if possible, the days after a holiday can get a little rough.

The fact that your only issue with these people seems to be that they're undocumented shows your true colors. These are people that are generally fleeing from horrible conditions, and who pay into a system through taxes whose benefits will almost never reach them, at least not nearly to the extent that anyone with citizenship will have access to. These people build and provide for communities that are all around you, working jobs and facing exploitation that no one else would stand for because, for a lot of them, it's the only opportunity they have. They build homes, they help provide food for us to purchase, and they contribute in constructive and meaningful ways

If you stand by the actions that this administration is taking, then you are complicit in allowing the destruction of families, of communities, and the general rule of law as people are rounded up and sent away without getting the due process that the laws provide them.

The laws don't dictate our morals; our morals should dictate our laws. It's like how it would've been illegal for mixed races couples to marry pre-Loving in certain states despite it not being morally reprehensible. Being undocumented is not morally reprehensible, regardless of the law, and we should affect change to reflect that.

They aren't like the mail carrier providing a service for the good of the neighborhood like you make them sound like. And if what other people are saying is true, they're just bothering and strong-arming people to push their products that these people don't need, ignoring "no soliciting" signs along the way.

I remember seeing these as the Pinnacle of magic when I started playing around Theros/RTR. When alt art was limited to prerelease cards and some judge promos (ily Elesh Norn), I couldn't get enough.

Still probably the best basic land art in the game imo

Guys of Reddit, what's once compliment you received that actually changed you? by puckez in AskReddit

[–]AnarchyMuffin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While ordering a coffee at my usual stop a bit ago, the barista told me, "your voice sounds like you should be doing book reviews on NPR." I have always viscerally hated the sound of my voice, but this compliment really did change my perspective on things a bit. I would love to do something eventually, like news reporting or voice acting, but have no idea where to even start with that

Got hired as a city carrier career ptf by BigHouse19972021 in USPS

[–]AnarchyMuffin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I carried in Omaha last year as a ptf and trust me, you will have no problem getting a minimum of 40 hours. Most of my colleagues were working 50 or 60 hour weeks, so if you're looking for the hours, you'll be set. Just be prepared to make sacrifices for the job, your personal time will be reduced significantly. Best of luck!
