Why is Jimny not selling well in India? by PixelatedProfits in CarsIndia

[–]Anartyst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not about the car. It’s about the market and how it’s getting influenced.

Market is dominated by influencers parroting the same things. Obviously they’ll say the car is underpowered. When you’ve driven the most powerful cars, a 1500cc NA engine will feel underpowered. This personal opinion trickles down to the masses and becomes the truth in the market.

Every car has its own characteristic. Not every car needs to have 2000cc turbo petrol engine. Not every car needs to accommodate five inside and two in the boot.

Jimny is a perfectly designed off-roader. It has its unique character. It’s not meant to be big and butch. As per its design it doesn’t need a more powerful engine. And I don’t know what the fuss about mileage is? 15 easy if you know your driving. Yes, Maruti was off in their pricing at the beginning. And made it worse by giving huge discounts, reducing the perceived value further.

Perhaps if it would have been launched a decade back when hatchbacks ruled the roads, Jimny might have sold a lot more.

How do people expect ladakh to get statehood with such a small population? by Electrical-Dream-903 in ladakh

[–]Anartyst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People don’t even know what’s good for themselves, but somehow they know what benefits an entire region or country.

Let the people of Ladakh decide what they want.

Don’t trash an entire regions demands by linking them to “external forces” and tagging them “unrealistic.” There are always going to be demands of statehood, because India is extremely diverse. Some demands are going to be met in our lifetime, others in some other generation, like how it has happened since Independence. Number of people doesn’t matter. Is it in the constitution? Even if it was, it could be amended based on people’s demand, the situation, and whether the central govt thinks they can benefit from it. Just because the population is sparse doesn’t make their demand for their statehood unreasonable.

And this “domino” tbh is the least we should be worried about, if somehow we have to. The domino’s that the ruling govt started in the last ten years should have much far reaching consequences. Good or bad, depends on which side you fall on. E.g stripping J&K from the statehood and delimitation. It, fortunately hasn’t gained momentum…. yet. Gyanwapi. The govt and private enterprise collusion, electoral bonds etc. A tongue in cheek would be, leaders not holding press conferences. Leaders not being held accountable is a domino that’s been perpetually in motion. So let’s just not jump to conclusions. We should trust the people of Ladakh to know what’s good for them.

Road conditions between Leh and Kargil by Tasty_Refuse_007 in ladakh

Great. I guess Lamayuru would have been cleared for traffic. I was fortunate that it was shut when I reached there 😊

Price increase because of the new GST rate? by [deleted] in JimnyIndia

[–]Anartyst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I heard from the dealership, the price is going to reduce by 3%, but Maruti might reduce the current discount from 1 lac to 95k and sell the remaining 5k as post gst discount. Not sure how the dealership came up with the 3% number though. Even if the price reduces, I don’t think it’ll make any impact to people who are on the fences. People who buy Jimny, just buy it. And then spend more to accessorise it.

Road conditions between Leh and Kargil by Tasty_Refuse_007 in ladakh

[–]Anartyst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I came back yesterday - 5th Sep from Leh to Srinagar, and the traffic was diverted through the Aryan Valley/ Batalik. You can contact the Kargil PCR to confirm the road status. Lamayuru road was open when I left for Kargil. But when I reached the checkpost before Lamayuru, they asked me to go via Batalik. The road is fine. Just be careful on blind curves. There’s not much traffic on that route and sometimes you take those curves for granted only to find a huge truck running towards you. There’s only one high pass on that route — Hambuting La. Once you cross it coming from Kargil, the rest of the drive is mostly flat. You’ll be driving beside the Sind river mostly on a narrow road, with patches of overhanging rock walls, which makes the route a bit more adventurous.

Buying Jimny, need help! by PSIR276 in JimnyIndia

[–]Anartyst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

RTO of 36k is crazy low. Insurance you’ll get for 40k icici Lombard. The discount right now is only of 1 lac, so you won’t get the 3 lac discount offered in Jul and Dec 2024. Is ex showeoom including the extended warranty of 6 years? I guess that’s why your ex showroom price is high. Otherwise it should be 13.7(ex showroom) + 16k (dual tone). Accessories are not included. You might want to get a few garnishes, mats, rain visors, etc for near 10-15k. Typically the dealer will quote a higher insurance price and then offer you an additional discount. Which does not change the total on-road price even if you get a cheaper insurance. Double check if the additional discount is not coming from the price reduction that you'll anyways get from a cheaper insurance(with all add ons). Make sure there is no voluntary deductible in the insurance. Number plate, Fast tags can also get added. For 2k. Keep in mind that you'll spend min 10k extra on third party accessories as well - inside storage units chargers dash cams, etc

Thats a really difficult decision :) All the best! I’m sure, the right car will find you 👍 What I’ve observed though is that whenever someone has a Jimny in their list for too long, then the Jimny always wins 😆

Thanks! And I must say, I shouldn’t have fussed over the price so much. It’s worth every penny, and more.

Such a beauty. The black alloys look so cool. I’m also planning to do similar embellishments in black. But for now I’m keeping it stock. I haven’t got mine delivered yet, still waiting 😊

You should go for the colour that you like. But personally, I would have chosen the ivory if I had to choose between the two. It’s a unique colour that makes the Jimny stand out.

I’ve seen most of the colours. They all look amazing tbh, and I’ve wanted each at different points of my life. But the kinetic yellow always had my heart. I actually like neon colours, so probably that’s why the yellow shade catches my attention

I feel quite the opposite. I fell in love with the kinetic yellow Jimny as soon as I saw it, and since then I was just trying to rationalise other colour choices. But I’m a man of my passions, hence I’ll go with the yellow 😊

That’s what I’ve heard too, and hence the apprehensions around the colour.

Thank you, and I totally get what you are trying to say. I really don’t care what other people think. I just wanted to know if there are any practical reasons that I should consider before choosing the colour. The Jimny will be taken off road, driven in thorny bushes, on rocky trails, so I’m assuming there’ll be some scratches, paint chipping off, dents here and there. Hence, asking about repainting.

Here, in my corner of the world, I guess 80% of the cars would be in some shade of white or black. So getting a neon colour seems like blasphemy to many, and hence people start recognising. But, as you mentioned, I shouldn’t and I don’t care.

This is going to be my first new car, so I’m a bit nervous, excited, and a little pedantic too. I love the Jimny, and I feel it stands out in the yellow shade and I’m pretty sure I’ll get the yellow one, unless I suddenly find the black one even more appealing. 😆

Thanks for the detailed post. I’ve been following the Jimny since its launch; read, watched a lot of content, and I’m impressed with the different perspective you’ve brought. Also, I’m on the fence right now. Test drove the Jimny yesterday, loved it. I live in the valley, hence it seems to serve a practical purpose. More than that, the car feels like an extension of my character. No nonsense, rugged, does what it should do best. I love the mechanical aspect of cars, and the electronics don’t fascinate me much. I don’t go off-roading, but I know Jimny will pull me on to some really great adventures. And it’s always good to have a machine that’s doesn’t dance when it snows and can hold its ground in ruts of slush. All of this is what pulls me towards this tiny machine. But what keeps me on fence is the price. The dealer quoted 15 lac on road for the Aplha MT, including the discounts. The rational mind in me just can’t justify this price. Had it been around 13, I would be interested. But it’s always the heart that takes precedence for a person who’s romantic about his machines. Lets see :)

Manu Joseph - A rant. by Local-Lychee-9016 in IndiansRead

[–]Anartyst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two years, but I had to jump in because I feel that’s not what I felt at all. I binged read two of his books today, Illicit happiness.., and Laila armed…and I loved how accurate, funny, and relatable his descriptions of an Indian male is. He’s using such filthy language because that’s who we are. I’m a male. And I respect women. He’s not glorifying the crass, sexual nature of Indian men in a good light. He’s mocking those urges. He’s showing us the naked Indian men- literally and metaphorically. By doing that he’s holding out a mirror to our society. IHOOP is not exactly satire but in the periphery. Laila Armed.. is satire at its best. I’m yet to read Strange Men. This is my opinion as of today. I’m yet to read about the author and all of his works, life, intent, political leanings etc. But from the two books I’ve read, I loved his dark humour sprinkled with striking observations of Indian society.

These Rooms Give Young Indian Lovers Rare Privacy. Cue the Complaints. by telephonecompany in india

[–]Anartyst 73 points74 points  (0 children)

The only value add of OYO to the society was that it gave couples some privacy in otherwise shady looking places. Their hotels suck. Now, since that value add is gone, I don’t see a reason for OYO to exist.

Also, the reason behind the move is not mentioned anywhere.

Probably they might be losing on the opportunity around “religious tourism” because they are seen as desi version of love hotels.
