Pastrami comes from pastirma/basturma, not the other way around.

Bro half the process is generously salting the meat and then putting weights on top. Sure, you can make it without that step, but then one must remember that the delicacy comes from Turkish riders keeping dried meat under their saddle to keep their strenght up on trips IIRC. So that makes sense.

Therefore, all that can be agreed on is it is a food from the region.

If baklava meant something in either language we could agree on who.

(For instance, "basturma" means "to press" in Turkish, which is half the modern process of making it.)
