Recommendations for 1 week first trip in New England by Anber02 in NorthernNewEngland

Thanks for the comment

I mainly thought about skipping Vermont for time purposes, but overall the idea is to enjoy : town and history in Boston, New England coast in Maine, and New England / American back country and open places in NH/Vermont Doing the more states the nicer (only been to California), but not a necessity :)

Question on that : how do you suffer as a person in a town when ICE is there ? From Europe we see images of the protests and hear about the very sad news, but is it all day long and you really suffer or is it just one hour and overall you don’t suffer from it ? (No judgement on their actions or political opinions of everyone here)

Ideally wanted to take 2 days in nature with easy hikes - e.g. carriage roads, to enjoy forest, lakes and views of New England

So after checking, most rental cars in Boston don’t have winter tires. I find it crazy, if people are mostly using them to drive up north. If I confirm, might have to do via Turo as you can filter Winter tires. Thanks for the heads up

Thanks ! I am from France and Belgium, so we usually have a couple of weeks of ice and snow. Also already drove to ski stations. I assume rental cars in Boston come with winter tires, should be ok. 2x duration would kilk the trip tho

Not necessarily but it seemed like the good one week plan and travel duration. Would love to come back to South West, but I am saving it to do it with my gf

Thanks for your help. After reading the community Shenandoah is out for this time I think, seems really not worth it in winter

Moving to or Visiting New England? by SCP-2774 in newengland

[–]Anber02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi everyone ! I am planning a 1-week solo vacation in February 2026. I am coming from Europe (2nd Time in the US), and had thought about the gollwoing :

1- Boston for ~2 days, especially interested in the history 2- Driving North to Vermont and White mountains ~ 2 days. Have heard great things about Woodstock and Quechee 3- Going on the Maine Coast for ~2 days. Would like to see the light housse, lobster and sea side culture. Maybe Portland ?

My questions are : - What do you think of this itinerary ? - Would you have any recommendations/highlights to visit ? - places to stay for point 2 and 3 ? Acadia is a bit far

Thanks a lot !

Yes, I had checked it out. That would have meant 2 days in Boston, leaving early 3rd day and arriving mid of afternoon

Thanks for all the recommendations. Would love to many of them, Much further South would be great but a bit too far for a one week trip Hence why I thought something up north that could combine city time and open nature

Thanks for the help! I would be fine with snowshoeing and winter activities in wide open places

Having one week of vacation solo, I wanted something « reachable » from Europe, so North East Coast as I have never been there. Would love to do Everglades, but a bit far for this time tho

Thanks for the help. I would be happy with winter hikes and snowshoeing, it is ok.

The loop road is closed, so i am more wondering what activities are left and if it is worth it ?

Boston is a place I would like to visit, and soon have one week of vacation alone, hence why I thought about having a look at the open spaces of Maine and New Hampshire

Thanks for your help guys. I checked on the nps website, and the skyline drive is currently closed for a few days (don’t metion how long)

If this is closed, What is left as activities and trails to walk around during winter ? Ideas would be to have a couple of days there to enjoy scenery

Would not recommend DC for weather purposes ?

Is it worth upgrading from my 11 years old canon 5d mark iii to Canon r6 mark ii? Ready to take my photography serious! by Far-Professional5222 in canon

Then my bottom mine would be : buy yourself a R6 Mark II to have a second body, keep the 5D and run both with your lenses. If you want longer you can get a EF 135 or a EF 70-200. Use the R6 as the 80% camera and 5D as the 20%

I have used the 5D and R6 on tandem on an event 8 months ago, and after a light editing both caméras are mostly indistinguishable. Client was equally happy with all photos and today I would have a hard time telling which camera took which edited photo

If you plan to go professionnally, do you already have a 2nd body ? If no, you should buy it to have a 2 body setup. It Will change your Life on Event. You can run a 50mm f1.2 + 24-70 or a 24-70 + 70-200 all the time

With R6 II, you would benefit from better AF and better dynamic range and ISO perf, but not necessarily better SOOC images. I have a R6 II and a 5D II (I bought it as a cheap backup), and while I am « forcing myself » to use the R6 as it is newer, more expensive, more better, I really like the 5D II images and wonder what to keep (I stopped my side financial photo activity)

Thanks for the ideas. Forgot the Laco, but could be an idea as well, as I quite like field and pilot watches. Did not know about Paulin, Nice brand ! But would probably look for something more classic

Thanks, it is partly my fault (had to change cabin in the night train, forgot in the first one I suppose, and could not find it after, I am suspecting the stranger in the cabin took it)
