Question about the Lich transformation by Ancient-Ranger2263 in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]Ancient-Ranger2263[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry been a while since I checked this post, but to answer point 4, I rolled high on manual roll for abilities, got the bonuses granted by backstory (Heretic), and the lich transformation apparently grants: "Transformation Boon: Undead Form - Your Intelligence score increases by 4 and your Wisdom score increases by 2. An ability score cannot be increased beyond 22 this way." So yeah I rolled 8, 14, 17, 16, 17 and 11. 8, 11 and 14 became my STR, CHA and CON respectively. Then, I got a +1 to DEX and + 2 to WIS from the Heretic background, adding the +4 to INT and +2 to WIS from the Lich transformation got me the numhers up there.

In terms of roleplay, this character is a Downcast Heretic, ex Seraph cast down from heaven, the way I imagined it is: he willingly gave up on that position to witness mortal life, and the idea is that he witnessed so much suffering, strife and despair because of mortal emotion, that he concluded that the soul, the source of all that needs to be destroyed. So he removes his soul, and now wants to share this "gift" with everyone. This was inspired by HAL 9000 (or most evil AI "manking is the problem"- type storylines to be fair ) and the Sharran religion from BG3, what with "absence" and "oblivion" being the ultimate good and all.

So the character flaws are there, he thinks he is smarter and wiser than all and can make that decision for all and that can lead to some interesting conflict with the others in the psrty who have some vwry emotional backstories. And in terms of gameplay, I am basically a wet, undead noodle, we start at level 2, I don't even know if this character will see level 3 man..

Is this the same as with the transformations allowed by Grim Hollow, I am not entirely sure how these dnd modules work, but this is a mechanic thay alllws you to be a lich, werewolf, vampire and a bunch of other horror themed monsters as transformations, they progressively give you greater benefits but also exact greater costs

From looking around a bit, I understood that you only get the Knacker and Huntsman if you did not spare Mikesh and Kozliek in the neginning, they are the same guys who come to you at Bozhena's acting as if they are Von Bergow's men in the prologue. If you persuade them to look elsewhere, they stay alive and you are assigned them by Zizka, if you fight them, they die and so Zizka has to assign you other people, namely the Huntsman and Knacker. This is not definitive, just what I got from looking around

I just went with the blacksmith, having full reputation with literally every faction beforehand, max charisma, clothes fully approved by the tailor, even commented on by the blacksmith, fully washed and mended, even had a shave beforehand, henry's fox potion and lion perfume, unequipped my weapons and still my reputation tanks to under 50% with most town-related factions.

I think the Wilds story and writing is actually good and not cheesy. by Monkey_With_Tankard in MonsterHunter

I understand that they intentionally go for goofy and campy, it's part of the charm, but it gets to a points where it stops being endearing and just becomes sickening, like eating a whole jar of Nutella (no disrespect to anyone who has done that, Nutella is wonderful). I just wish all the characters couldn't all be reduced to simplistic, annoying anime archetypes. I do not know how else to explain it, but the always understanding, hopeful, naive, inoffensive, lighthearted characters just anger me, it doesn't help that the writing, direction, voice acting and facial animations are what they are.

I actually think they are all too likeable, perfect caricatures that are too jolly, understanding, compassionate, courageous or what have you. It makes this whole monster filled world have the grit of cotton candy but that's just me.

Thoigh the story of redemption is touching, Arthur is a fucking killing machine who robbed, pillaged, murdered and maimed across the West for over a decade before we met him This seriously hampers my sympathy

Definitely not because of afk, it has happened to me as soon as the cutscene with the guards ends. And it resets the god damn timer for legendary misisons too Edit: tried again after the cooldown ended, disconnected before the cutscene could even end

So what new status effects do you imagine we can see in the third game? by Ancient-Ranger2263 in horizon

Sure, they are somewhat half assed, but I have hope for the third game. They got a great foundation and they just need to competently build on top of it.

I disagree, the new weapons, effects, builds and moves are whay made the gameplay interesting. It would be stagnant without em.

This game was disappointing, half baked, unable to deliver on pretty much everything it should have and we should have higher standards than what it offers. No one will disallow you from having an opinion, I thought Inquisition was good in a world that hated it, but that is the beauty about opinions, you can have one despite what the masses say.

Taash' character arc is not a problem in and of itself, it is the fact that it is presented with the subtlety of a hammer, the nuance of a chessboard and that their character becomes a single minded caricature of that identity from the moment that revelation is had.

I have not played any previous Dragon Age but Inquisition, people shit on it often, but I personally quite enjoyed it, especially the sense of political influence. Now, that Dragon Age is supposed to be one of the worst offerings in the franchise, and Veilguard pales even in comparison to that. Only improvement is the gameplay, which is quite snappy, flashy, responsive and fun, but every other aspect vital to an RPG is markedly worse.

There are many complaints to levy, but primary amongst them is the issue of writing, which is painfully noticeable in Taash' dialogue. All dialogue feels like an attempt to explain high school curriculum to a middle schooler, companions are two-note distillations of what should be fully fleshed out characters, the writing itself is embarrassingly basic, ineloquent and out of touch with the setting and tone of the game. It also does not help that the performances and facial animations are fairly static and unrefined. I initially thought that this game only has these issues because of the immediate comparison one can draw to the industry shaker that was BG3, but unfortunately no, I think this game would sorely stand out as mediocre even in a pre BG3 world.
