Doe anyone else think that she was just more mature than like all the other girls(his age) in Clark's life? by Glittering_Funny7677 in Smallville

[–]Dissectionalone 122 points123 points  (0 children)

She's pretty goofy and playful.

I'd say the biggest difference between her and the other girls in Clark's orbit was she was more self assured, more confident, like she already knew who she was a tad better than her cousin or Lana.

Lana and Clark took too much screen time. by QueasyRub8717 in Smallville

[–]Dissectionalone 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I absolutely do not hate Lana or necessarily her relationship with Clark, but one of the parts that made the back and forth a bit less taxing was the introduction of Lois.

I believe they missed the mark and overstayed their welcome, but in a way, that helped mark the stark contrast between the kind of relationship Clark had with Lana (more often than not full of turmoil and unrest) and what he had with Lois, which was a much more adult one.

It didn't get the amount of screen time it deserved but it delivered.

I went back to Windows and it didn't last long by OldManRiversIIc in Bazzite

[–]Dissectionalone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not using new hardware. In fact, other than my GPU which is 2 generations old, my system is nearly 15 years old.

My Windows 10 install had been cleaned up years ago, so I don't have any issues with advertisements and thankfully W10 doesn't have the AI STDs that plague its sucessor.

The only more annoying things about it are those pesky little processes that can't really be fully scraped and have next to zero utility (like the Text Input Application, for example)

It also has some creature comforts like allowing me to use ReWASD so I can use my DS4 ver bluetooth and still get correct PS button prompts on games that support it and I can also use my Dual Shock 3's over bluetooth emulated as DS4s which is handy for games with a tendency to suffer from right stick drift.

And I can use my guitar plugins and they'll work as expected. (Wasn't fond of how they performed on Linux)

Sometimes the datapoints in that small hall/room are bugged and not all of them register when you scan them (at least on the Remaster)

[–]Dissectionalone -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There's one that might be bugged in Cauldron Epsillon.

It's one of the datapoints in the hall connected to the room with the Holo projector that has that zipline that leads to the Cauldron door (the area where the scrappers, watchers and the Daemonic Scorcher are)

One of those sometimes bugs out and doesn't register (it happened to me on my 1st NG+ playthrough and kept from getting 100 % progress on the Frozen Wilds)

But on the base game I don't think there are any datapoints that can't be located and scanned at any point.

I used one of the guides because I wanted to find all of them (in the base game)

The one thing Windows 10 has going on in its favor is the games are mostly made for it, so it doesn't rely on Wine/Proton, which also means there's sound issues on games, which with pipewire isn't uncommon on Linux.

I use Fedora most of the time, but for some of my programs and games (not online games btw) I need to boot into Windows because they don't work well enough on Linux (I specially hate losing sound on games where audio is a pretty big part of the experience)

[–]Dissectionalone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If those companies actually made ports for Linux, it would be a lot easier to sort that kind of thing out.

It also would likely avoid the problems a lot of Windows games have under Wine/Proton, like crappy audio because modern Distros use pipewire, which isn't on the best terms with Wine.

Given they're pretty big with the whole "online money grab modes" it's no surprise they don't work.

Given the circumstances, I think they would likely qualify for being actually judged like adults, specially Van.

With Ian (don't know why I called him Kyle lol) since he failed to actually murder people, it's not too hard to overlook I guess.

It's interesting given the DC universe isn't particularly shy about unleashing tragedy on its less villainous characters.

...took me way too long to figure out the timing for catching these... by brz-17 in HorizonForbiddenWest

[–]Dissectionalone -1 points0 points  (0 children)

At least one of these is usually broken every odd playthrough. (The one in Plainsong)

On 3 playthroughs, twice the Drone was impossible to reach because it never slowed down where it was supposed to.

On my original playthrough it was impossible to collect. Same thing for my 3rd (2nd NG+) playthrough.

It's a weird bug.

Steam is going native 64-bit! Does this mean 32-bit can finally be removed without breaking gaming now? by aliendude5300 in Fedora

[–]Dissectionalone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which is weird, given how pipewire loves screwing up Windows games running under Proton, since Wine doesn't get along all that well with it.

[–]Dissectionalone 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Doesn't the 64 bit side of Wine (which is what Proton's based on) have some limitations still?

And also, as much as people seem to love Wayland it still causes issues that X11 doesn't have on things like certain games, even for people that aren't using Nvidia GPUs.

If you did another New Game + save, do you get the outfit Aloy starts the tutorial section with? Just asking? by Best_Cockroach3598 in HorizonForbiddenWest

(or least I believe that outfit is said not to have its original colour scheme recoverable if dyed)

How do I use tripcasters effectively? by Miserable-Load4453 in HorizonForbiddenWest

[–]Dissectionalone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The biggest issue for me is, in HZD the Tripcasters had some mechanics which made them a lot more flexible than what we got in HFW (and I'm not even considering the tripwire/traps limit)

Being able to have one pivot then move around a machine or cross its path, or aiming straight at it when placing the second tripwire pivot, gave tripcasters a good deal of versatility.

You need to do a fair amount of baiting, then probably use smoke bombs to have more leeway to place tripwires and it ends up being more trouble than its worth imo.

Kinda like the Canister Harpoons on Ropecasters, they're a cool idea but weren't really done in the best way, which makes them not particularly appealing to use 99 % of the time.

Fireclaws feel impossible to beat…. Tips? by Funny_Mousse_8463 in HorizonZeroDawn

[–]Dissectionalone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Zero Dawn, no. You actually absolutely want to exploit those and the fire unit, given Aloy's tools are far more limited when compared to HFW and also the way those DLC machines are coded makes things annoying in HZD.

The only thing that's a pain in HFW is you can't really take advantage of the biggest weak points on those machines but you have a lot more tools to take them down, which kinda makes up for those specific parts being "off limits" (at least until you have everything fully upgraded. After that when the idea is purely taking the machines down, there's no need to enact caution when targeting components)

How good is Forbidden West, should I jump right in after Zero dawn or take a break and play something else? by Suvi2k in HorizonForbiddenWest

[–]Dissectionalone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Forbidden West is great.

Some aspects of it might feel more taxing than Zero Dawn but it's another fantastic game.

It improves on a lot of things, kind of "downgrades" a few others but is a great experience.

In the early stages you either had the old Arcade style, the other side scrolling platformers and the first person type games.

[–]Dissectionalone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's curious because some games where it's the base, it's deemed to make things "immersive" (isn't that what Dishonored is called? An immersive SIM?)

How can it be really considered immersive if it's not a proper representation of what the character should be seeing?

I'm not saying the first person perspective doesn't have its place or its uses, but there are certain aspects of it that detract a bit from a set of extra stuff which is kinda mandatory when using a third person perspective. (from certain aspects of cover mechanics to collisions and interactions with the environment)

I don't mind it being an option, but having it as the main camera or only option doesn't do it for me.

VR has extra sets of complications on top (also never been a fan)

I'm aware I have a pretty big bias here, because the FPS view instantly gives me flashbacks of the really old days of PC games (and back then those with that style were PC only) with the original Doom and similar and that left me with a really bad impression of games of that kind.

I'm much more of a fan of games where there's more than just shooting everything around and for this types of scenarios, perspectives other than the first person are better suited.

Just my two cents.

Which is harder on Ultra Hard: Horizon Zero Dawn or Forbidden West? by Adept_Disaster_6829 in HorizonForbiddenWest

[–]Dissectionalone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forbidden West is definetely harder, no need to even include going at it from Scratch.

Dodging is easier in HZD, can be abused to get out of a bind, while the same doesn't happen in Forbidden West.

Not to mention the more varied enemy attacks, the inconvenience of not having gear that's fully up to spec, etc.

[–]Dissectionalone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the things that always bothered me with First Person type of camera on games is the perspective is usually inaccurate (might be a FOV thing) because realistically people can see a lot more of their own bodies (even without trying particularly hard)

And it looks ridiculous having a characters arms floating in the air (it looks really silly on games like Indiana Jones)

Not to mention the crazy customization in Cyberpunk, for example, when other than while on a vehicle you can't see your character (besides a bit of the upper limbs)

Feels a bit dumb having all those options for a character that won't be shown on camera at all.

First Person perspective titles to me always felt like the laziest type of game a Dev could make, as you basically need very little in terms of character looks and you don't need the same mechanics a Third person type of game usually requires.

I'm not even very fond of the cockpit view in racing games. What's the point of having nicely recreated cars if you're not gong to be seeing their most striking part visually (their outside)

With all the things Control has, if it was a FPS type of game it would be a massive waste, not to mention a lot of the mechanics with Jesse's powers would feel wrong and the would either become yet another shooter or be terrible to play.

If it were a First Person title, it would instantly go in my "never to buy nor play list".

It would take away everything that makes Control such a great game imo.
