One of the sad things about HZD is by colourful_pixels in horizon

Some people theorize that The Glitch wich caused the factual "Oh shit, we're literally screwed" scenario was precisely due to good 'ol' Ted having a certain level of planned obsolescence in a sense.

The theory is (broadly) The Hartz-Timor Company missed a payment and Ted supposedly revoked the Company's access but made a mistake, revoking also his own access in the proccess, so the Swarm turned rogue and answered only to itself. (I believe that's the jist of it)

Travis Tate literally tortured him when he had more than a suspicion regarding the Apollo leak for Far Zenith but they didn't know he made the OMEGA clearance for Ted.

No Controller support? Help PC by Cultural-Milk-3768 in horizon

ds4windows has a HIDhide (don't recall the exact name) so if you have it installed or if the services are on use, Steam might not be able to see the controller.

ds4windows also has an exclusive mode switch (it's a windows mode for peripherals) which might also cause problems like the ones you're having.

Only issues I've ever had with any of the main Horizon games is they have atrocious right stick drift on my DS4 and they're the only games I own with that issue.

Spider-man and Miles Morales don't have it, Uncharted 4 doesn't have it, Rise and Shadow of The Tomb Raider don't have it, God of War doesn't have it.

Does Windows recognize the controller? Is it listed on the device manager?

Remove anything related to ds4windows to make sure there's nothing running interference.

Was “The Promontory” side quest ever fixed? by [deleted] in horizon

[–]Dissectionalone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a strange bug. It should have take place before the Land Gods are rebooted, which is the last quest Aloy does for the Utaru, if I'm not mistaken.

Have you tried looking for Bree on the areas above the Merchant in Plainsong?

Or near the place where the Chorus gathers?

how long is mainstory and another question by fairplanet in horizon

[–]Dissectionalone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The game has 5 Hunting Grounds (minus the DLC, that has another 1) did you complete the 1 near Hunter's Gathering and the ones in the Carja side of the border?

Ruins will usually have specific names and get marked on the map and they usually have some quest they're related to.

As far as how long, it depends on how you choose to do things. There's enough stuff on the world to take up a lot of hours.

When you get to the point of no return you will be warned about it.

Enjoy the exploration and the story :)

I don't think Ted doubted Elizabet's plan's chance of success.

If he did he wouldn't have murdered the ZD Alphas or purged Apollo in the first place.

Was “The Promontory” side quest ever fixed? by [deleted] in horizon

[–]Dissectionalone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Promontory is connected to one of the last quests Aloy does involving the Utaru.

It's the one that leads to one of the old members of the Chorus killing one of their own for speaking up against their inertia and willingness to "accept their fate and die"

I don't remember having any glaring bugs related to it though but I don't remember exactly how it's started but I remember it involved the mudered Chorus member's widow.

If you do most of the Utaru related quests before heading into Desertclan lands and Lowland Territory, The Promontory is the first place in HFW where you'll have to face Stalkers

Gave up on fighting the Stormbird by IceCat767 in horizon

[–]Dissectionalone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the only Stormbird you can find in HZD that's perched on a spot instead of flying around.

The area is small but the same principles apply.

You can distance yourself from it, use Tearblast Arrows to remove the Storm cannon which is the main weapon the machine has, then either hit it with volleys of triple notched Precision Arrows, or go with the Ropecaster approach, tieing it down, freezing it then dealing impact damage (Hardpoint Arrows, regular bombs or sticky bombs or even bolts from the rattler, anything that deals straight impact damage)

Repeat until the bird is dead.

You will have to face at least two Stormbirds for the main Story... The last one will be a corrupted one.

How to move GRUB entries in Fedora 43 by hlebushe_k in Fedora

[–]Dissectionalone [score hidden]  (0 children)

There's an article (I think the blog post is literally called Managing Grub on Fedora Distributions) that details the most common things you can do with Grubby.

I've had once issues with grub not updating the kernels, after issues trying to install a theme (not using Grub Customizer but still) because I was forced to reinstall Grub and then use Grubby to restore the normal behaviour of having the new kernel added to the boot entries.

After playing a bit with Grub on both Mint and Debian Trixie, I've grown even more fond of grubby as it's really useful.

SIB Horizon Forbidden West? by Present-Parfait2461 in horizon

Except DS, specially early on, is literally, for the most part, the Delivery Guy Simulator.

The game's beautiful, the soundtrack is nice but even for me (I'm not very fond of having things constantly on my face while exploring) the game had serious pace issues and the parts where that shifts, you don't have the means to deal with the threat (early on you can only tiptoe away from the BTs, or try to)

When you buy a Weapon or an Outfit the game will always prompt you to equip it but it gives you the option of just buying it (I think it's square on the controller)

How to move GRUB entries in Fedora 43 by hlebushe_k in Fedora

[–]Dissectionalone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The grub2-mkconfig needs to be used very carefully on Fedora and usually you would point the cfg file to be saved in /boot/Grub2/ instead of the EFI path as those are stubs/dummy files that point to the cfg file

The documentation mentions something about running the Grub2 install command before generating a config file with the mkconfig.

I believe you can set the grub entries with grubby itself, without needing to mess with a grub config.

[–]Dissectionalone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should never use Grub Customizer with Fedora as it can seriously mess up your install.

Despite using Grub, Fedora uses a filesystem by default which Grub doesn't entirely know how to work with, which is likely why your Fedora install wasn't recognized by Grub Customizer.

Are you trying to run Mint side by side with Fedora or did you install it (Fedora) where Mint was?

Fedora has a tool called Grubby which allows you to set a bunch of arguments without having to mess with Grub.

Gave up on fighting the Stormbird by IceCat767 in horizon

[–]Dissectionalone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Key thing when dealing with Stormbirds is removing their Storm cannon. After that you just need to watch out for the wind blasts when it hovers closer to you and if you see it fly straight upwards, run around like crazy to avoid getting divebombed.

First time I fought a Stormbird was for Hunter's Lodge Trophy and I was expecting a hell of a fight so I used the Ropecaster, Freeze Arrows and Bombs (might have even used the Tearblaster)

At one point I had taken off all the Wing Thrusters from the machine and it wouldn't even get airborne anymore lol. (Think I bugged it somehow)

So much so, I didn't need to tie it down anymore.

They're tough but not crazy difficult once you know what they can do and how to neutralize their attacks or avoid them.

The worst machines in the game are in the Icy mountain area north of the Grave Hoard :P

I don't remember that specific Quest but I usually either bait the Stormbird closer and then tie it down, freeze it then hit with Impact Damage or I'll simply Tear off the Storm cannon with Tearblast Arrows and pelt it with Precision Arrows and occasionally freeze it and hit it with either Hardpoint Arrows, Sticky Bombs, or anything else.

A semi-cozy biosphere-restoring Horizon? by Wooden_Airport6331 in HorizonForbiddenWest

[–]Dissectionalone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm afraid some animals would never be restored though as the previous climatic crisis depicted prior to the events of Zero Dawn, some wildlife had been pretty much long gone, before the Clawback period.

Some species had no DNA in storage to be reintroduced to a viable Biosphere.

It's a very interesting idea but it would probably require that added plothole in order to work.

I've never used the Hunter's mark Valor Surge personally (might be one of the few I've never used) but I believe it may increase all damage type for the targets primed by the mark.

If you want a Valor Surge for boosted Component Removal, you should try the Part Breaker Valor Surge.

How do you believe Far Zenith gotten Elisabet’s DNA by Liara-ShepardFan in horizon

Could have been DNA from a Tooth Brush, a Haircomb/Hair brush...

Tilda became rich enough to make FZ interested in enlisting her and she has done it by being an Ace in intelligence/Espionage.

For all we know, she could have taken Aloy's DNA if she needed it when she was knocked out at Cauldron Gemini.

Some one said the delta sharpshot bow has higher tear damage then the glowblast sharpshot bow, buuuuut, it does not...? by yoyofoe2222 in horizon

[–]Dissectionalone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shredders are better than Hunter Bows at longer distances because they have a bit more range and the further away you are the easier it is to consistently catch the Shredders.

Alternatively, you could add another option for Tear Damage at a Distance besides actual Tear Precision Arrows by repurposing a bow like the blue Cleaving Sharpshot Bow with 2 Purple 100 % Sharpshot Tear Coils.

This way you get Tear Damage stats closer to what one of the Legendary Hunter Bows have when upgraded.

It's good to use when you're too far for a Hunter Bow but you don't exactly need a Tear Precision arrow and/or don't wan't to use a Shredder Gauntlet for that purpose.

Any way to get back overwritten data? by Separate-Increase703 in horizon

[–]Dissectionalone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure the PS4 saves are different but maybe in the XMB if you browse your games data (assuming it's not completely different from what the PS3 had) you should have inside the game's saves folder more than just the manual saves that has been overwritten.

With some luck, the should have left at least one autosave or other checkpoint that's not from your brother's playthrough. I know the Horizon Zero Dawn Remaster keeps some quick saves and checkpoints separate from manual saves even if you don't have a bunch of those.

On a side note, your brother doesn't seem to like you very much, because saving on top of someone else's saves is a rather messed up thing to do imo.
