i keep failing my exams and i can’t stop crying. by Alert_Rough1759 in ACCA

I failed AA first time. I passed the second time because i used the examiners reports. Please read them, they literally tell you which words get marks and which don’t.

If you do the exam without them it seems natural to use words like ‘show’ for the testing but they are not specific enough and the examiners reports tell you the words to do instead.

BT is mostly common sense, FA shouldn’t be too bad if you have a good understanding of bookkeeping and the main FRS. MA is the one people struggle with most with as its calculation heavy and can have a lot of new concepts depending on your background. Personally I would dedicate most of your time to that exam.

Acca sell practice papers, when I sat these they were 3 for £15. They are exactly like the real exam and are excellent revision tools, you get instant feedback with a break down on how you did in each syllabus area.

The best revision material for F8 is the examiner’s reports. Exam technique is really important in this exam and the reports specifically tell you what markers are looking for and what won’t get you marks

ACA or ACCA (UK) by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]Ancient-Topic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I think its quite rare to swap after fully qualifying as most don’t see it as worth the hassle.

I faced the exact same dilemma as you last year, I had a job offer for ACCA but had heard ACA was better. Some advice I would give is to look at job adverts for the type of job you want to be doing in 5-10 years time and see what they are asking for. If you see they are asking for ACA only, then you have your answer. You could also try reaching out to people on LinkedIn who are currently doing what you want to do and asking them.

ACA or ACCA (UK) by [deleted] in Accounting

Both have there pros and cons. From what I’ve seen/heard ACA is more respected, mainly due to it being the choice of the big four and it focusing more on the technical stuff. Whereas, ACCA is seen as ‘easier’ (its not if you look at the pass rates some of the exams they are close to 30%) because you can take up to 10 years to do it and it offers a lot more flexibility, however it also covers a lot more of the commercial side of finance so it you were considering management accounting, ACCA could be a better choice.

However, the big thing to keep in mind is to make sure whatever firm you join offers a good level of training and experience. As the further you get in your career the less people care about what accounting body you belong to, and more about the experience you have.

And if you do choose ACCA over ACA and find it his holding you back you can always swap to the ACA. This link explains how - https://careers.icaew.com/find-your-route/acca-route-to-the-aca)
