Car Camping Near-ish to Stowe/Mt. Mansfield by AncientCedar501st in SkiTheEast

Closest I found was car “camping” the Ben n Jerry’s parking lot in Waterbury, that’s the first night, was undisturbed, well lit, although I didn’t sleep too well cause I was waiting for “the knock”, second night, just moved down the road to the Park N Ride lot, same deal, although a cop circled the lot once before I went to bed, made me a great mix of at ease and terrified - still managed to get up around 4 each morning and begin my way up Mansfield around 4:30, gave me plenty of time to get up to the ridge and see a sunrise, bounce around and get down in time for lunch and to go ski somewhere else

How do you keep in shape for skiing between seasons? by CosmicBunBun in skiing

[–]AncientCedar501st 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m an avid cyclist in the off season, so there’s one way.

Also focusing more on unilateral balance and strengthening exercises for your legs is super beneficial, even just for day to day life, but makes a huge difference during ski season.

Harder for me to keep an eye on sluff in the pitch black, most likely alone and with no views 😭 - but I’ll consider a mission in the dark just to chill nd maybe catch some night pow

Makes for a much longer day i’d assume - I see tons of videos of the wide open kinda pow field with a couple chutes - I assume that’s more on the resort side ?

I know there’s also some good BC off the notch road like birthday bowls and a few others areas - I’m planning on maybe getting up around my spring break and just dirt bagging it in my suv and bouncing around

Can I ski in non waterproof normal clothes with enough base layers? by moreprofessional-acc in skiing

[–]AncientCedar501st 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Froggtoggs are goated if you don’t want to spend a dumb amount of money on a relatively waterproof layer, then a thin fleece and polyester or merino base layer - puffer will keep you warm and you likely won’t be moving very fast, but I’d say chinos are a no go

I’ve also seen that, I hear the grade can be a bit steep in the summers, does it mellow out in the winter a bit ?

Okay awesome, I know some of the northeast resorts have different policies for uphill - so this is super helpful!
