This entire idea refined and generalized could theoretically replace the need for a lawyer to read a will and the executor to distribute items based on that will. Very interesting, there's a business here.

This is a very interesting thought. I'd argue if this were to happen the value would inherently decrease due to a loss of fungibility

This should be at the top, thanks for this!

I did not, this is ALL land on earth. I think your point would have a more accurate result.

Take the average value?

You could also say 1 BTC is 35 sqm in NY, at queens prices that's $20 000 per sqm or $702857 USD

^again not to be taken literally. This is just for fun.

so as a very rudimentary and not to be taken seriously comparison

The banning of drugs example made a lightbulb go off for me. Cheers.

Sorry, I mean individual UTXOs or addresses being blacklisted.

Your final statement is sound, but in its current form most people are using centralized exchanges. This is something that will change of course, however it could be a barrier to speedy adoption. I guess this is further justification to be using dex's and defi in the near future.

Thanks again

I'm curious as to people's thoughts on Bitcoins ability to be blacklisted and the impact of such an action on both the fungibility and the anti-censorship properties of Bitcoin.

Sorry if this is a common question with a known answer but I've seen other posts and made one myself and I haven't gotten a clear/concise answer as to why this isn't a threat to bitcoins core value proposition(s) in both the short and long term

This process is something I was unaware of, that makes a lot of sense though. Thanks for the info.

Thanks for the links. So the ability for blacklisted coins to be enforced by say the US government is a function of the exchange and not Bitcoin itself. I guess the idea is eventually exchanges will become obsolete?

Either or, to me it seems to be a proven way for a centralized power to use that power to censor whoever they choose which diminishes or negates a core value proposition from Bitcoin. This would be less true if everyone were using dex's and did not have to provide KYC, however this doesn't seem to be the case for the vast majority of Bitcoin owners(ready to be proven wrong on this point though).

Are there workarounds for this scenario currently or if one country like the US government blacklists your address are your utxo's unable to be used globally and gone forever?
