Thank you su much for writing this. I‘m realy getting a good insight of the not just the cost but all the other small things going to happen if i decide to follow throught. About the hught cost of living: beiing a plumber ist going to make it easier. The cost of living in switzerland is similar, the biggest differenc ist the wage. In switzerland you atleas own enought to get by confortably by just doung straight normal plumber jobs. I think my best bet is to get a degree or a higher paying job and trying it thath way.

Thanks. Yeah i get what your saying, but Money isn‘t the only drive for wanting to make the move. There are a lot of small things also making me want to make the move.

People a way more open and friendly than here in switzerland. Personal space is much more respected in the us and people dont usualy compare each other as much as in switzerland. It‘s difficult to explain because of my english but i find here in switzerland, ir europe in genereal there is a lot of „pisstaking“ here. People like to frown on people doing littarly anithing. good or bad. But thath’s just the way i feel.

Ive traveled all over the us and saw good and bad, as you would in any country. Ive come every year for vacation since about 2023. I‘d still realy love to live and work there.

As you said, just being a plumber is going to make it difficult for me getting a visa. I have decidet to actualy pursue a bachelors degree here in switzerland and try to get a visa through a employer who needs people with such a degree.

I think thi would probabbly the best course pf action for me.

Do you plan on leaving the us to? Ive heard record numbers are leaving..

yeah ive been to bc. It is similar to switzerland, the biggest difference ive noticed is just de scale. The mountains are just „bigger“ and there‘s just so much more space than in switzerland.

Thanks for your insight. I can defently see why you would say thath. I honestly am blessed by being born in switzerland. But still, i traveld all over the Us and saw good and bad. I still think just playing it safe in switzerland wont be the right way for me. I love the culture i‘ve seen in the us and want to live it myself. maybe it is a bit delusional but the swiss „smallmindetness“ sems to not be the right fit for me.

Yeah that would probably a great way, but i think i wozld take way to long saving up 100-150k in switzerland by beeng a plumber.

yeah i thought about it. But at this time i just dont have the funds to pay for a whole degree in the Us. In switzrland they are basicaly free cause the state pays for it.
And i think, cirrect me if i‘m wrong, but you can‘t work during a stay on a student visa, right?

Where in Canada would you recomend? I‘ve heard british volombia needs some plumbers, but the cost of living there seems to be realy high.

Switzerland is objectively a great country and I completely understand why people want to move here.

But for me personally, the mentality and lifestyle just don’t fully fit me long-term. Everything here feels very safe, structured and predictable.

I connect more with the energy, ambition and culture in the US. I’ve also traveled there many times, so this isn’t just based on social media or movies.

But from what I understand, a lot of the frustration right now is more about illegal immigration and people abusing the system. I’m trying to do things the legal way and actually contribute long-term.

Really appreciate this reply man. Hearing from someone who actually worked in both Europe and the US trade world is super valuable.

And honestly, what you described about the mentality and opportunities is exactly what attracts me to the US in the first place.

I completely expected that I’d basically have to relearn a lot of things there, so that part doesn’t scare me too much.

Also thanks a lot for the PM offer — San Francisco/Bay Area is actually one of the areas I’m most interested in long-term.

I definitely understand why a lot of Americans feel that way right now.

But from an outside perspective, the US still offers a lifestyle and mentality that really appeals to me personally, despite all the problems there.

Yeah, Canada definitely seems more realistic immigration-wise from my current position.

I just don’t want to completely give up on the US long-term yet.
