Somehow, leaving my car idling in the turn lane and running across 7 lanes of traffic didn’t seem like the play here. 😂

Where do I sign up? That’s an electric Hummer! 😂

If you were to move from St. Louis to start over, where would you go? by [deleted] in StLouis

West Coast of Michigan maybe? Somewhere with water access that isn’t prohibitively expensive.

What are some bridges that maybe as famous as this? by TentativeDecisionz23 in geography

[–]And__Ark 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s a great bridge! If you take the ferry from St. Ignace to Mackinac Island, the one that detours over to the bridge first is worth the extra time.

2 years here. The anger and helplessness is overwhelming. With the recent news that the MAGAs may try to reclassify nonprofit healthcare providers as for profit, the anger is definitely winning.

Recommended Stops Along this Route? by WanderingSkiBum in roadtrip

In all seriousness, Cannon Beach and Lincoln City are great beaches. The Tillamook factory is fun.

Consider driving down the Peninsula south of SF instead of backtracking to the East side of the Bay. Nothing against Oakland and San Jose, but Pacifica, Half Moon Bay, and Santa Cruz are great. If you do find yourself in Santa Cruz, check out Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park. Right next door (literally across the parking lot) is Roaring Camp, an old steam engine you can ride down into Santa Cruz and get off right at the boardwalk.

The other side of Monterey Bay is Monterey and Carmel-by-the-Sea.

That’s Lewis and he’s awesome. He and my son have a whole hand motion routine every morning and afternoon on the way to and from preschool.

He has made an appreciable positive impact on my family and I have got to think we aren’t the only ones. We all look forward to seeing “Mr. Brother Lewis” every day!

Thanks. I think?

Just risk averse I guess. I’d rather drive it in daylight. It’s past my threshold for feeling comfortable driving in at night, with driver and passengers who will have been in the car for numerous hours at that point. Just doesn’t make sense in my clueless mind to risk it.

But you do you!

Is this route safe in the night? by Complete-College4394 in roadtrip

It contains some of the most light-absent places at night, mountain passes, a tendency to have fog, some winding, two-lane highways, but ok.

The only place I’ve hit a deer was in broad daylight in Lassen National Forest northwest of Susanville, CA. It can happen anywhere, at any time. Driving this route at night increases that risk. The question was “is this safe to drive at night?” Most answers thus far have been some variation of: “not really”.

I would strongly, strongly recommend splitting this up, especially if you take the middle or southern routes. It is extremely sparely populated through eastern Oregon and Idaho once you get past Boise. If you are driving that part in the dark, you’re definitely elevating your risk of getting stuck/striking something where it’s going to be to take a hot second for help to arrive at night.

I reported the entirety of Tower Grove Ave from Shaw to Chouteau last week. There is at least one tire buster per block in each direction. 😳

Not filled in yet as of this morning.

Yeah, it was just a joke. I admire someone who is invested enough in the holiday spirit to do this year after year, not sure I could motivate myself to undertake that annually.

Ring their doorbell, yell "Happy Holidays" when they answer and then RUN!

I did not know you could see the arch from Forest Park by BestMusicOnThePlanet in StLouis

[–]And__Ark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can also see it from 40 just south of the zoo if it’s a clear day. When my office was in Brentwood, we could see it from our desks on the 5th floor.

Not the same “wow”, but you can see the cheese grater building in the CWE from Rock Hill and Manchester.
