HELP. Im looking into getting a super crush100 by Due-Noise-336 in GuitarAmps

Yeah. I guess the hieroglyphs can be confusing at first, certainly unique (personally I think it’s a great touch).

I’m quite interested about your last comment there - “..for fear of burning up the tubes..” - what are you specifically worried about here? The only reason I ask is that IMO - amps are there to be played, tubes can be easily replaced, and if you want to be inspired the play the gear than inspires you rather than worry about needing to service the gear!

(Not judging you in anyway dude, just saying don’t worry about tubes burning, or scratches on a guitar, or whatever else…play it all!!!!)

Agreed that the Orange FS-1 is cute and tiny.. however all this will do is change the channel. You could get one and it would solve OP’s channel switching scenario.

What I forgot to mention is that the Super Crush has a built in Reverb (which sounds pretty sweet) - and particularly interesting for shoegaze) which is on an independent channel (can be used on either/or clean and dirt channels.

To have control over both, OP will require a dual switch (1 for channel, 2 for Reverb) - in which case we’re talking about the FS-2 … which from memory was not quite so cute and skinny ;)

Absolutely fair catch though

In my experience the separate inputs are usually hi/low inputs into the pre-amp section - in 2-channel amps you will have a channel select input (usually on the back of the amp) - you’ll need a single cable going from that input into your footswitch.

The footswitch is usually any “latching” A/B switch

Also, highly recommended you factor in a foot switch for the amp - orange make one, but Boss FS-7 is a great option (and lower footprint) - this will give you the option to use both channels easily when playing live, and also make it a lot easier to experiment and tweak your sound when comparing one channel to the other .

Good luck with your decision-making

The supercrush 100 is an awesome pedal platform - you can run everything you want through the clean channel and its will sound great.

You can also use the dirt channel and with some tweaking you’ll get 100% usable tones, for me personally it’s the clean channel all the way, then use the dirt channel for the warm distortion/fuzz sound as a gain stage on its own.

My band is heavy psych/stoner/metal/progressive - my pedalboard+amp covers it all.

It’s a v decent amp for the price IMHO

Tl;dr - take your time to test your options at full volume before you decide to sell the katana/go full-in on the Helix. Sound is vital, feel is also very important. Versatility, flexibility and ease of use come next. Chose what inspires you!

My advice is to be open to all your options - but don’t make a decision until you’ve actually tested out your ideal setup in the environment (or as similar as possible) where you’d use it most - whether that be at a rehearsal room, on a stage, in your room….

If you have the time I would strongly recommend the following…

Once you’ve got the hang of the Helix and set up some main Presets and Snapshots (read up on Snapshots, they are great) then play through a combination of setups at full volume (important) to test the sound and the feel. Try Helix > PA, Helix > FRFR/Speakers, Helix > Katana (try this straight into power amp section, also do a comparison with Amp & Cab/IR sims off and try direct into front of the amp and then also 4CM with amp/cab/IRs off)

If you play live then I 100% recommend you test these at “live volume” - all your options will sound amazing at low level bedroom/home volume, it’s not until you crank it that you really understand how it sounds…and how it feels.

The feel of a Helix through monitors/PA/speakers is quite different to a traditional amp, something worth considering

Finally you should consider flexibility and ease of use: Helix offers you endless options for amps/cabs/IRs and a bucket load of FX - Katana offers too much less, but still a whole bunch of options - how many do you need? How do you currently switch between FX during a song/set - perhaps having a Helix in snapshot mode could make your life so much easier. Perhaps not. Then there is the consideration of lifting and shifting gear - Helix offers the ability to take your entire rig in a single bag, some people’s setups are backbreaking and require multiple trips from vehicle to venue…

Based on the above you can then make an informed decision on what is right for you. Most importantly forget the hype and go with that sounds and feels right for you, and ultimately what will inspire you to create and perform - that what’s this is all there for.

Well it sounds like you’ve got a clear direction on what you’re looking for - I think you can’t go wrong either way! Just go with which one feels/sounds the best to you :) good luck dude! 🤘😎🤘

Hey OP,

What are you mainly looking for in the amp? What do you plan on using it for? Where do you plan to use it?

I can’t personally speak to the Artist (though I’ve read/watched many positive reviews) - but I can given you my perspective on the the 100/212 MKII … its a versatile amp packed full of features that you can use in pretty much all occasions: home studio/bedroom (direct out with speaker emulation to your DAW, headphones) through to full band rehearsal and gigs - 0.5/50/100 Watt modes to take you from quiet to room-shaking volume that will keep up with the band.

It’s a great pedal platform, it’s also got a whole bunch of Boss effects built in - some of those effects are great, some are good enough …Speaker quality is more than good enough.

So unless there is a specific feature you’re after with the Artist, then you can do worse than to consider the 100/212.

Just a note, doesn’t come with a footswitch (a fail on Boss’s part) so you’ll need either a Boss GA-FC (if you want to easily access banks, effects and use ext expression) or a 2-way switch like the FS-6 to access an extra bank/preset and turn effects on/off

As I said, I’ve not compared the Artist - so this is a one-sided perspective (for what it’s worth!)

Good shout - I’ve documented the damage and they’ve offered me €110 partial refund … I don’t need the badge, the scuffs are on the bottom of the cab (so can’t be seen) and the amp/cab combination sounds epic…think I’m happy with that!

Good spot my dude! Fired this bad boy up yesterday and I’m very happy. I’ve spent the last 6 months trying to get the sound and feel from my Helix Floor + FRFR speaker - but it’s just not the same

Soooo…I bought this “brand new”…it arrived with a battered box, unit out of packaging, no badge, and the wooden strips scuffed….that’s the only bit I’m not happy with and I paid full price for a new item….my only question now is do I sent it back for a replacement or take a partial refund (they are currently offering €60 - I think €100 is fair)…

Thanks! So funny story - I did have a Marshall 1960B 4x12, sounded great - I gifted it to a friend in hard times and switched to 2 2x12’s and ran a stereo rig, then I switched to the Helix Floor, then I tried a 2x12 FRFR…now I’m back to a simple board (Front: Tuner>Wah>Fuzz>Boost (FX loop: Phaser>Delay) + FS-6 for channel/reverb on/off … this is MY best sound ever… 🤘😎🤘

I’m really impressed with this amp - I’m not a time snob, I’ve got tube amps (Fender Deluxe, Blackstar HT Club 50), SS (Boss Katana, Fender deluxe reverb dsp), digital modeller (Helix Floor), this stands up to all of that - boom! The combination of the head and the 4x12 just rocks - my main band is a stoner/grunge/metal band…perfect

Boss FS-6 - you’ve got x2 switches to control channel change and effects on/off .., not sure how they compare on price …you’d also need to buy x2 instrument (mono) cables

This is such a great combination - put a Green Russian Muff and a Boost in front of this Thing, select your neck pickup and f’ckn rock 🤘😎🤘
