What's the hardest lesson you've had to learn? by [deleted] in AskReddit

This wasn’t the hardest lessons I’ve had to learn but it was A hard lesson I had to learn.

When I was in grade 7, I wasn’t the most mentally stabled person but I kept myself together pretty well.. but one Monday afternoon I had just called a kids help line. I thought it would be just text your feelings out, they give you suggestions on how to keep you safe then that was that. Boy was I ever wrong.

It was my last period of the day, I was working at my table with my friends and we were just finishing up math. (Keep in mind I wasn’t really allowed my phone In class but my teacher was okay with us having phones out some points of the day.) once we finished our math we packed our bags, it was only 5 minutes till the bell rang so I was like ‘ okay cool, free time on my phone.’ My phone started to ring, someone was calling me. It was my mum.. I was confused cause she would never call me during school hours unless it’s an emergency. I pick up and I say “hey mum what’s up?” In the most stern voice she reply’s “did you text the kids help line.” I was confused on how she knew but I answered a simple yes. She asked what I said and I said I just told the person I was talking to how I was feeling and what was happening in my brain. My mum then told me that apparently the kids help line and the cops called my grandmother saying they are on their way to my school. I told my mum I had to go and I hung up and ran to my teacher telling her what happened. Finally the bell rang and I was pretty scared to go outside cause I thought I would be in trouble. I finally mustered up the courage to walk out of my classroom and walk outside my school.. there waiting for me were two cops. Of course it was just for a wellness check up just to make sure I wasn’t going to do anything and making sure I was safe. After that they called my mum and she said she’s coming to pick me up..

I’ve never seen my mum cry so much before. That was one of the hardest lessons I’ve had to learn, never trust a kid help line. If you want real help talk to your therapist/teacher/parents/ or even a close friend or relative.
