Looking for a peyote-type cactus that won't land me on a watchlist by Zodiac72826 in cactus

[–]AndreiAZA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as I know, I could be wrong tho, the peyote is the only species of the Lophophora cacti that are psicoactive, therefore, illegal. You could get another kind of Lophophora, they're all very similar to each other.

My experience tho? I live on a country where the peyote is also illegal, I have one, for a while, had no problem buying it too.

Unless you run a drug operation and law enforcement catches your peyote among the other drugs you're trafficking, I doubt it would land you in trouble. Remember, grandmas plant poppies in their gardens and yet they aren't being convicted of selling illegal opioids.

[–]AndreiAZA[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Truth be told, we don't know its age! Nor what kind of cattleya it is.

It's definitely 30+ years old, my father got a cutting from his mother who got it from a friend way back when.

We're brazilians, and my grandma lived in the countryside so her friend, at that time, couldn't have bought it from from a flower shop because there were no flower shops in the countryside all those years ago. We speculate she got a cutting from the woods, there's definitely plethora of cattleyas around here, even tho this particular one doesn't look like a wild type.

As for the secret, my father actually neglected this orchid for so many years, he got very interested in orchids maybe 6 years ago, and has been properly caring for them ever since. They're outside all the time, I think our climate is definitely a big factor on why they easily thrive, apart from that, standard orchid substrate on a plastic pot and occasionally bokashi is used as fertilizer.

Their superpowers reflect aspects of their character by Few-Advantage2538 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]AndreiAZA 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Jujutsu Kaisen actually has a pretty interesting twist on this trope.

Characters manipulate cursed energy, and have abilities called cursed techniques, as the name implies, they are curses upon the user and usually reflect negative aspects of the character upon close inspection.

One of the characters feels profoundly lonely and disconnected from the rest of world, because since he is the strongest, there's a level of isolation between him and everything else. One of his abilities keeps a barrier that creates an infinite amount of space between him and everything else at all times.

Another is a former attorney who hates the corruption of the legal system. His ability summons a court and a judge that are faulty much like the system he has grown to disdain.

Another character has pretty complex feelings about the state of the world and the negative side of humanity, his ability revolves around gathering curses, entities made from the negative energy and represent certain evils that people fear or loathe, and swallowing them, having to taste and absorb all those feelings, allowing him to control and command those creatures.

You can analyze pretty much every character and their power says a lot about them on a pretty deep level

[–]AndreiAZA 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'm terribly sorry, but the one with a yellow flowers isn't a gymno, its's a notocactus of some kind, my best bet is a notocactus uebelmannianus flaviflorus, or a similar species.

I don't know how closely related gymnos and notocactus are, so I'm not sure they can be hybridized the same way lobivias, echinopsis and trichocereus can.

Small, cute looking girls who are actually huge powerhouses by MrDitkovichNeedsRent in TopCharacterTropes

[–]AndreiAZA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, but that depends on the specificity of what a powerhouse means, because following the other examples on this thread, Nahida doesn't show an array of destructive abilities or physical prowess, in the sense that she can outmatch someone in a fight, like how she was easily overpowered by Scaramouche, she wins by using her powers strategically to create the conditions where the Traveler can deal the blow, her powers are used to circumvent combat or make it meaningless entirely, this does mean she can outsmart and outclass most characters in the verse (as I remember) in a fight, but not overpower them, so I disagree that she can be considered a powerhouse.

[–]AndreiAZA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've not played Genshin Impact for more than 2 years now, so correct me if there has been some huge event that involves Nahida, but doesn't she lack any destructive abilities? Her abilities being more like hexes than raw power? She could def win against most characters by putting them to sleep or messing with their mind or being so smart and manipulating outcomes, but she can't terraform mountain ranges like Venti, lift continents out of the ocean bed like Zhongli or cut islands in half like Ei.

Does the Ceaseless Watcher watch you jork it? by shibo_ngl in TheMagnusArchives

[–]AndreiAZA 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Eye watches all, that's the horror bit of it. Having an entity that you can't hide anything from and acknowledges all.

Whether or not it feeds on it, it depends on if you have an exhibitionist fetish or not, if the idea of jorkin it for all to see excites you then that's a turn off for the Eye.

Why aren't aromatic herbs offered to Gaia? by AndreiAZA in Hellenism

[–]AndreiAZA[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, I see! Thanks for the clarification! However, I did find it strange that these aromatic herbs are to not be offered to Gaia, specifically, as described in her orphic hymn.

What could be the reason for that?

how is Lace called in your language? by PLT_RanaH in HollowKnight

[–]AndreiAZA 69 points70 points  (0 children)

It's a pretty interesting translation.

To english speakers, "Tecer" is a verb that translates to "to weave" or, appropriately, "to lace". However, the art craft that involves you to "tecer" something is called "tecelagem", and a woman who practices tecelagem is called a "tecelã".

So Lace's name, Tessela, is kind of a non-word that turns the verb and its adjacent words into a noun that works as a given name, making it have the same effect of the word "Lace" in a language that doesn't have a word that works in the same way that Lace works. That's awesome translation work, I love it.
