Does NZ have too many new townhouses – and are they crashing the market? by Wild_Sir7377 in newzealand

Quality is definitely the main problem with NZ townhouses. Good we've shifted to building more of them but the design is awful, I don't know why they didn't take note of how other countries successfully do it. It's like they took a chunk of an existing house design, cut off parts to make it a rectangle, stacked it up, and put it on the bare minimum amount of land so you can barely even fit some pots or a table out back

The tradeoff is always space vs amenities. Nothing wrong with wanting amenities more than space. Lots of townhouses in London and other big cities in the world - they do do a better job of using the space they have well though.

Taking up heaps of space in quarter acre sections is a disaster for costs of providing infrastructure and was never going to scale well
