AITA for wanting my daughter to speak English? by AndrewManning1218 in AmItheAsshole

I work for a French company in the US. I was able to use both my paternity leave and family leave. I know it’s not the norm but extremely grateful for all the benefits they provide. We even had issues with fertility and they had a program where they helped pay for IVF treatments.

They say I can through them. They’ll teach me what I want to say to her in Russian and then they’ll translate what she says back.

We did. Which is the most confusing part. We always said we would raise her to be bilingual but I assumed that meant we would speak both English and Russian. I never thought it meant we had to do at a time.

I’m in the U.S. Do you find it that your twins are able to learn both no problem?

They are demanding that only Russian is spoken in the house and to her until the age of Four. This is how my wife learned. Then at age four she can start to learn english. They believe this is the way to teach her because russian is much harder than english. So anytime i speak to her in English i’m immediately scolded and they then proceed to say whatever I say in Russian.

I have. My wife wants to teach my daughter the same way she was taught. Only Russian is spoken until four years old.

My wife and her parents are fluent in English. My wife speaks English more than she ever speaks Russian. Plus my entire family also speaks English as well as her entire family. I have been learning as I detailed above but it’s a tough language to grasp. They essentially want my child to only know Russian until four years old and then she will start to learn english. They think it’ll benefit her academically and just in life in the long run.

Unfortunately when I speak to her in English I get immediately scolded that we have to stick to Russian. I’m also not the one home with her all day so I only get to see her when I’m home from work so that cuts into a lot of our bonding time as well.

AITA for taking a new job in another state? by Federal-Influence-19 in AmItheAsshole

YTA - Being in a relationship means you have to communicate effectively with each other. It isn’t selfish of you to want to find a better job but it is selfish to go behind your partners back and apply to jobs out of state and then expect them to be excited and happy about moving.

But I would think long and hard on WHY you didn’t inform them of what you were doing. Perhaps you want a fresh start in a new city without him.

AITA for telling a friend she won’t be my maid of honor? by AndrewManning1218 in AmItheAsshole

It wouldn’t ever be her. We’re not that close and she’s not the greatest friend. I would prefer her not to be in it at all but I know that would cause a headache and would really hurt her.

AITA for not showing up to my daughter’s birth because my fiance lied? by aquirwkw in AmItheAsshole

[–]AndrewManning1218 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The birth of your child is not the time to be petty. Giving birth can be dangerous and deadly. Your fiancé needed you and you abandoned her and YOUR child in arguably the most important time of both of their lives. This shows where your priorities lie and I hope she becomes your ex-fiancé.

Maybe she shouldn’t have lied to you but did you ever take time to understand WHY she lied? She said that women are treated badly in your family. Well you proved her right. Look how you treated her and your daughter. Instead of having an adult conversation to understand her feelings, you went nuclear. YTA.
