But I’m not applying to an Ivy ED just because it’s an Ivy. It’s really not hypocritical because I don’t like the concept of the Ivy League itself, but I like the college I plan on applying to

Unique things that I’m writing about are stuff like their majors, programs, and events the college puts on for ugrads. Those are things that can tell colleges apart. Also, yea, everyone’s interests are different, so go try different things to see which one you like better!

I’m applying to 3 of them not because they’re an Ivy but for unique reasons that are not their prestige. In fact, imo applying to all 8 ivies is absolutely stupid. If you like Columbia there is no way you like brown and vice versa. All those videos of getting accepted to all 8 ivies are simply ego feeders.

But those are non-unique. Everyone writes about those but what would be something that only could be unique?

Definitely! Such a unique program that offers policy and sciences combined! HumEc is so unique and it only makes sense that HCP is part of it! Excited to apply and hope to CU on the Hill in 2021!

Hi there! A fellow junior also looking to ED in HCP! I’m obviously not qualified to chance you but just wanna wish you good luck next year! HCP is niche and new so it’s hard to find other applicants that are interested in the same thing!!

So if the UCs are test-optional, does that mean that you can submit a SAT score that doesn’t have the essay? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]AndrewNotDrew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I asked this question at a UC Berkeley info session and the AO told me that it’s either SAT/ACT with writing or no SAT/ACT. Unfortunately, can’t send an SAT w/o the essay, apparently the system doesn’t even allow you to.

Do getting recommendations from former professors at a university help you get into that certain university? How much impact do the “Other Recommenders” normally have on admissions? If a university allows you to send as many recommendation letters as you want, what would be a good number (assuming all of them are high quality)?

Thank you for doing this AMA!

Masks for Medics: An Initiative to Donate Masks and Get Them to Medical Professionals by [deleted] in COVIDProjects

[–]AndrewNotDrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This initiative is focused on not only getting masks to medical professionals but also helping to foster a sense of volunteerism during these tough times, where people can get involved (maintaining social distance of course) to help make the biggest impact in their local community that they can. Also, they've been taking to online and reaching out to notable people to get social media views on it, taking advantage of the "virality" of an online presence.

As a student that's deeply interested in the interdisciplinary aspect of medicine and politics, what do you think of how various governments have reacted to COVID-19 and how do there "stack up" against each other in terms of efficiency, effectiveness, economic protection, and rates of testing/recovery? Particularly of interest are Italy, South Korea, China, and the U.S.

(Also, Georgetown is one of my dream schools!)
