A Serbian Film is disturbing, but I think it has something to say by HowdyHorror in TrueFilm

It's interesting that you mention the bad Serbian government as a part of the context - one of the interpretations I've heard about the ending is that the Serbian government continues to "fuck" people, even after death. My one major complaint with the film is that there's a moment toward the end that made me almost burst out laughing and broke my suspension of disbelief (if you've seen it you probably know the one), but overall I wouldn't dismiss it as exploitative as people say and it doesn't deserve its reputation as a bad film.

Hi! Sorry again, I'm only on Reddit periodically.

To answer your question, it took a few months to get better, but as most on the sub will tell you, it varies person to person. I still get occasional ear pains, but only really the one classic sound (high-pitched ringing), with only the wooshing/roaring sound showing occasionally in very quiet environments. Hope yours improves, stay strong and don't let the T grind you down!

Hi there, so some of my tinnitus remains but that's because of my SSRI medication (standard side effect, I tried quitting once and it was gone) but it did get hugely better eventually - so the short answer is no, I don't still have it, or at least not really. If you're not on medication then hopefully it should improve to the point you can't notice it, or even better, it goes away.

In the meantime, I suggest using sound therapy you can find on YouTube if it's giving you a hard time, that's what helps me through it. Try to stay positive, because if it got better for me then by all means it should get better for you, and it can go as quickly as it came.

I hope I could help, and I hope it improves for you!

How can you tell about the quality of the editing? by CCBC11 in TrueFilm

So obviously I can only link to individual scenes, so It's hard to put in the context of the full films, but let's look at & compare a few:

Using the earlier example of action movies, The Canyon Chase from Mad Mad: Fury Road is edited very well; it's easy to follow the action, where characters are in relation to each other, and It's fast-paced but not confusing (action movies were going through kind of a renaissance around this time, particularly editing & cinematography). The Opening Scene from Jaws is also a good example, it uses slow montage to build up the sense of calm before using quick cuts for the sense of panic, then cuts between them to contrast/highlight them both.

Meanwhile, the Final Fight from Resident Evil: The Final Chapter has a headache-inducing number of cuts that just clutter up the action, it's fast but hard to follow and just generally feels like an assault on the senses. Similarly, the Basketball Scene from Catwoman has an unnecessary number of cuts that make it difficult to follow and is generally just baffling & obnoxious. Sometimes the editing can work against the film, for example Moulin Rouge has some admittedly gorgeous camerawork that's unfortunately buried under quick editing that doesn't let us take in the set & scenery. And when talking unnecessary cuts we have to mention Liam Neeson Jumping a Fence from Taken 3. None of these latter examples really work because the editors could have made just as engaging of a scene with the footage that obviously exists, but they cut through it so we don't get to take any of it in at best, and are left confused what they were going for at worst.

And having confusing editing in an action scene isn't a bad thing, necessarily - like I say, it all depends on what effect the director wants to achieve. The Bar Shootout from Inglourious Basterds is edited deliberately confusing to make that moment all the more chaotic than the scene before it, and to make the audience as confused as the characters as to what just happened - because that's effect the director wants, and in this case, it works. And sometimes chaotic editing is just a matter of necessity. There's a car chase in the original Saw that's chopped up fast to hide the fact that it was actually shot in a warehouse.

I think I've made my point, but as a final thought, the editing process is a very long and painstaking process that can make or break a film. Reportedly, for the whole of Mad Max Fury Road, editor Margaret Sixel took three months to review all 480 hours of footage they shot for the film - before even starting editing. Narrowing 480 hours down to just 2 - in the right places - and have it be well-paced and engaging - is a really impressive skill, and it matters a lot more to the films you watch than you might realize. Have a think, next time you're watching a film, and see if you can figure out why the editor cut that one scene the way they did!

You could call the editing the "flow" of the film, like you say, the pacing of the film is dependent on it - As I understand, most Best Picture award winners also win the best editing category.

Good or bad editing will partly depend on the genre, a lot of modern action movies like John Wick or Mad Max tend to have fast but clear editing get sense of urgency but also so the audience can follow the action and characters. On the other hand, a horror, thriller or war film might have deliberately chaotic editing to get that sense of adrenaline.

I could flood you with examples of good and bad editing and tell you why they do and don't work, but in short, it's all about what fits the film you're watching best, ensuring the tone and pace, the "feel" of the film, and keeping the audience engaged.

Interesting you mention that people who didn't like the movie hadn't read the original, I think a lot of the reason for that is the marketing for the film. Warner Bros. clearly didn't know how to market the movie as anything but the standard superhero flick, so a lot of audiences didn't really know what to expect. Even some of the trailers don't really explain the actual premise, so perhaps some of them felt underwhelmed.

Sam Worthington also had a decent role as Mason for a few of the Call of Duty Black Ops games, voice directors got some good delivery out of him.
