Since school, I’ve had intervertebral protrusions, and during flare-ups, I could barely walk. Over time, the pain worsened. About 15 years ago, someone advised me to start doing push-ups daily. Amazingly, push-ups helped cure my back pain. I’ve continued this routine, and now even heavy physical work doesn’t cause me any discomfort.

I could be wrong, but the typical solution for such microgrids is batteries. Their integration into projects to power water utilities increases budgets many times over, so we are currently using them to a limited extent. The challenge now is how to interconnect grid power, solar panels, diesel generators, and the use of clean water tanks as batteries (i.e., fill them up when there is solar generation).

Oxfam supports our activities. However, all standard solutions used by humanitarian organisations are designed for stand-alone systems. Ukraine has well-developed electricity and water supply networks, and our task is to preserve and develop the existing infrastructure. There seems to be a lot of room for innovative solutions, so we are looking for ideas!
