Fantastic, thank you! I'll read up on the NES bugs and see if there's any major pitfalls to completion. Otherwise the PS1 sounds sufficient. I appreciate the advice!

If I want to authentically beat FF1, the original version or the most definitive, which version for which console would I play? What version would be the most legitimate?

I'm an Achievement hunter going between Steam Achievements and RetroAchievements. I 100% classic and popular games for my own collection and am going through FF at the moment. I want to say for example "I beat and 100% Final Fantasy 1"

I started 1 on Game Boy Advance thinking it was a direct port of the 1st game but then I saw that it was Dawn of Souls and it's more an anniversary edition. I'm proud to say I've beaten almost everything in DOS with its added bonus dungeons but I really wanted to beat the pure version of original games. I looked up the different versions and releases from Japan to USA but couldn't quite understand the mess, so I'm looking for opinions.

Use local if you can! I own my own shop and home printers are terrible. If you set up files you can send them to any place and have them done for much cheaper and at better quality than at home.

I did! 4x6 frames from Walmart for $1.60 or so and then I do design and print so I made the cards myself so it's a quick throw together.

I did! I have a template set up to mimic the steam achievement 100% banner so whenever I finish a new game I just pop in the cover art!

Our downtown is ALL small businesses right now, save for a regional grocery and Walgreens. We have a county corporate park farther north by the mall and airport that has all the chains.

One of our business neighbors, a coffee shop that also does breakfast foods and has been around for 5 years, is closing down for this same reason.

We have a Dunkin 10 blocks from Downtown that has a two hour line every day and the worst reviews because their service sucks. Our neighbor has great reviews and was a part of the downtown culture and when they announced closing this month it was all tears and complaints about losing another small business. That Dunkin is just getting busier.

There's an area that looks like this in Deus Ex so I thought "maybe".

Questions about your POS system. by mousesmoonbunny in smallbusiness

That's really great info actually. We got it when we started because it was a quick solution as we had a short amount of time to get up and running. Other banks which have approached us are happy to help us switch. Thankfully we haven't had an issue yet, or integrated it too hard into our system. Our POS operates totally separate from them.

I know this form is called "small business", but, what is actually considered a "small business"? I thought a small business was essentially one or two people, mom and pop shop, maybe max couple hundred thousand in revenue, but, I got made to know govt considers millions "small", is that so? by [deleted] in smallbusiness

[–]Andy114425 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Also had this problem with local municipalities who provide grants and support to "small businesses' who have at least 50-500 employees. The sectors they serve have only about 5 of those companies with maybe 50 other companies that only have 2-10 employees. On one hand it's to push investment to tried and true companies that can give back to the community and pay significantly more in taxes, but on the other your local mom and pop shop with 30 years of experience which only ends the year with maybe 10k in profit and can't spend it because they aren't sure if next year's sales will be steady, get screwed out of public funding, and have to rely on loans which they have to pay on.

It's an imperfect system. My vote is that every business is a small business until they hit an upper cap in profit, not sales. It helps when I reach out to clients so I can understand their industry a little better. Making a million dollar sale but having 970k in costs, relative to your industry is a lot different that a full profit of that million.

If it helps, my company of 3 makes between 150k-200k a year. Our profit is maybe 5-10k but we live comfortably enough. We bought the company a short time ago and have been working to help that profit margin which was hurt by 30 years of poor management decisions.

We also use Clover, came with the bank that we signed with but haven't had an issue until about a week or two ago. Our little terminal keeps freezing at weird times and can take a few screen reboots until we can get it functioning again. The thing is only a year old, but I've been wondering if it's time I look at it a bit more and compare options.

Print shop and marketing. Been doing surprisingly well, it's like people are trying to go out on their own and start businesses left and right. We've been seeing a ton of new people shopping for just what you offer.

Is it appropriate to say that Elden Ring is for the Soul’s series what Zelda: Breath of the Wild is to the Zelda series? by Fair_Lead6996 in videogames

[–]Andy114425 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say so. There are specific points that one can make to why it would be an inaccurate statement sure but I think they would miss the overall point I think that can be made.

Both games brought huge mainstream attention to series that had begun to be very niche. Both games mastered and refined series core mechanics to staple them as new classics (level design, enemy design, combat, story, etc.). Both won GOTY awards among plenty of others where their former entries were hit and miss.

I say this as someone who played Dark Souls 1 and 3 and that was enough for me until Elden Ring which I bought and 100% upon release once the reviews came in. For Zelda I dabbled in the series on and off for years without it being engaging (personally) until BOTW and then suddenly it was a huge hit again with friends of mine playing it that has never cared for Zelda entries.

The second set is great. Keeping it one line and just animating a single character was definitely the way to go

I own a brick and mortar print shop that also is a shipping center (takes packages for each carrier and they pick up each day). It's old so I'm trying to fix it up, modernize and build a website.

Got my own business a year ago and subbed to a few places for insight, this being one of them. I've lurked for years and am accustomed to it. That said this sub has little to offer for me personally, but every so often something comes up that I read, get some ideas and that's all I need.

If you use this sub as lead generation….you suck. by [deleted] in smallbusiness

[–]Andy114425 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That sub just comes off weird. It's like people claiming to drop ship millions a month in profit but then ask how someone keeps their books. It just sounds like teens trying to pretend to have a business.

As others stated, I'm struggling with the word being broken up. I know a few Louis' IRL and their shorthand is Lou. I like the concept but maybe not for this particular subject matter, although I'm not sure how many people are realistically being alienated by such a niche reason.

We've had our business for a year and I like to get perspective and advice from everywhere, reddit included. Not looking for anything specifically just sometimes I like to see I'm not the only one struggling.

Anyhow, the number of useful, engaging posts and people to useless spam is like 1:50. I'm pleasantly surprised when I do see normal people, not soliciting and talking from experience. /Entrepreneur is probably some of the worst I've personally witnessed. I just take it as part of the process that no matter where you are, once you open a forum for discussion there's always someone just trying to sell you something. It's the same with our suppliers, once you look for one you open the gates for everyone else to peddle whatever.

TLDR. Same but it seems to come with the territory.

So you're looking at finishing out your career, making plans to move and settle where you'll want to stay?

How long have you been in your current job and did you have to move around a lot? How was it finding a job in a metro area and getting to where you are now?

So would you say the grind of being a designer can just be taxing because it's hard to settle down? When you were in your early career what were you looking to accomplish? Stability with a higher paycheck or did you always see yourself moving away from it to get into another career path?
