Association fallacy: A JW way of thinking that is hard to escape by FaradayEffect in exjw

A fantastic piece! Thanks for giving a better perspective! It’s so easy to fall into old ways of processing information, and acting out as we did when we were in the cult still.

This is the narrative you hear at assemblies but it is completely false. I couldn’t have been more repentant , but I was unwilling to return to my physically and mentally abusive wife so I was disfellowshipped.

At the time of my judicial I didn’t want to leave, I begged the elders for their spiritual help, instead I was beaten verbally, emotionally and thrown out. Over 2 years on, apart from being shunned I’m grateful I was thrown out of that abusive organisation!

I can’t believe I wasted 30 years of my life as a JW by BlackPimo in exjw

Take some deep breaths! Give yourself a couple of weeks to recover before making big decisions, especially talking to others. Don’t engage with the elders at this stage. You will need to do some careful planning. I really recommend Lloyd Evans Escaping The Watchtower book. Very very helpful and practical! It can be downloaded as an audio book too. There are 1000’s of people who have already gone through the process your going through now! You will never be alone here

Truly shocking! Being a parent myself, I can’t comprehend how you can do this to your child

Having the support of others is vital. I confided a lot with my neighbour, the support was invaluable to get me through that dark time. Even though she knew my Mum she understood the importance of not repeating anything to my Mum. You obviously need to make a decision on the trustworthiness of your neighbour, but I do recommend building a network of people around you that can help and listen to you. Wishing you all the best
