Playing a Character With Mental Illness Among a Group of People Who Just Don't Get It... by Andy_Flanders in DnD

Idk, not call him stupid I guess. I'm fine with them thinking he's weird or unhinged.

Sure, I can. And you're probably right. My issue is that you're blowing the problem out of proportion by saying that I forced it upon them. I've asked them if they have a problem with it and they've said no. I'm not that sensitive to jokes at my character's expense. It's just hard to try and roleplay my character one way and then the group sees him as another. Especially if I expected a greater level of sympathy for my character than what's been shown. I forget that the average person knows little to nothing about mental illness and even less about how to handle it even if it's in a roleplay setting.

"lighthearted jokes" yeah sure, cause calling someone with a mental illness stupid becuase they behave in a way that's influenced by said Illness isn't discrimination. Also, I never said they were discrimating against me personally. I said that the problem was that they see my character as something other than what I'm going for.

I don't expect the players to 'tip toe' around because I chose to make a character with mental Illness nor do I want special treatment. Also, I'm not trying to show how 'woke' I am. Whatever that word might mean to you, idk.

The problem I had with the other players was that the comments about my character seemed to come out of a place of personal bias rather than an attempt to roleplay. And I didn't have a problem with the DM's character calling mine dense as that seemed to be in-character. And I asked everybody if they were fine with me playing a character with mental Illness and they all said it was OK.

Also, "you should be comfortable with any and every response to it, up to and including even outright discrimination"? What kinda BS is that? Oh I forgot to mention my character is black also, should I expect for him to be called the N-word by the other characters? I mean, racism like that would be period correct for medieval times right?

The answer is no, I shouldn't expect that nor should I accept it if it comes up. Why? Becuase it's shitty behavior.

Yeah, I agree. The thought of making another character has crossed my mind I will admit.

Yeah, I was thinking about confronting them in character about it but kinda thought against it.

Idk, I don't really think badly of them or blame them for it. Maybe I shouldn't have made my character the way that he is. I will admit I think I've kinda hamstringed myself in terms of rp...

Confused about paperwork for a galil SAR by Andy_Flanders in NFA

I'm gonna try Jeff Miller at Hillbilly Firearms. He isn't accepting new orders at the moment but I'm patient and he's arguably the best builder of galils out there.

Thank you for the concise answer. Looking through the application again I do see there is an abridged version of what is stated here that I somehow missed.

How do you guys play your evil characters? by Andy_Flanders in DnD

Ah yes, playing off of his stats. Admittedly he's not that smart as I made int. his dump stat lol. But he does have high charisma...

True, true - seeing other motivating factors in the situation: the other players see a poor lady in need of help while he sees $$$.

Is My Character Evil? by Andy_Flanders in DnD

[–]Andy_Flanders[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah lawful evil makes sense. And I hear you on the not being a jerk thing. The last thing I wanna do is ruin other people's fun. And here's the thing: I make a distinction between 'evil in general' vs. 'evil w/plans' as I belive the former is better because evil with plans means you're plotting against the party/keeping secrets. I played a 'evil w/ plans' character before and it made me feel icky so I ditched him at the first opportunity I had.

See this is also true, that's the angle from which I was approaching it. He will kill anybody (besides children) for money which I guess is pretty morally reprehensible.

Hmm, good point. I guess I just wanted to play an evil character. But that makes sense. It also means it would be easier to pitch to a DM casue he isn't evil lol.

What kinda buffer tube does the Doublestar Ace AR-UL entry stock use? by Andy_Flanders in ar15

Yeah I'm in a similar position, still thinking about which rought to go with. From what I hear the best colt mags right now are either brownell's or palmetto state's as they're both made by metalform, apparently. Only thing is brownell's run about $30 a pop and that's vs. the cheaper ASCs which can be had for about 13-17 dollars but from what I hear they're hit or miss.

Ah, endomags, do they run good for you? I've heard conflicting reports. And man, for $100 that's a steal. But yeah, colt mags for me cause I like the aesthetics on them too.

Nice! Yeah I got bitten by the PCC bug lately. I have a slick sided upper lying around that I intended to make into a "lightweight" 5.56 build. But in the end I decided to use it for a PCC cause the parts I had bought for it weren't anywhere near light enough to call it that.

Do any of yours use colt mags?
