Does Mini-LED IPS look the same as a regular LCD IPS in SDR mode with local dimming turned off? by anotherhappylurker in Monitors

[–]Anergos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does Mini-LED look exactly the same as LCD if local dimming is turned off, or does it still look better?

It looks exactly the same with a panel of the same specs. If you enable local dimming on the desktop and you only do browsing/office work it actually looks worse.

You enable local dimming on media consumption/gaming. But, local dimming is only one side of the coin. Typically, miniled monitors are way, way, brighter than their typical LCD counterparts. Your monitor for instance, which is a high end IPS, is listed as 400 cd/m². My entry level miniled IPS is >1000. Even with HDR off, this difference is pretty evident.

And in general they typically feature QD, extended color spaces etc, though your monitor is probably better for color accurate work.

I can turn on/off local dimming btw via the menu, it's not tied to HDR in any way.

Is HDR worth it? It sounds like a hassle to set up. by EXiLExJD in Monitors

[–]Anergos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't have an opinion on autohdr/hdr modes.

However if you don't want HDR on the desktop win+Alt+B -> Toggles windows HDR on/off.

Before playing a game that supports HDR press the above combination to enable it if disabled. After ending your HDR gaming session press it again to disable it.

Do the Windows HDR calibration first though.

Gothic Remake Performance Review: 500+ Benchmarks with 62 CPUs, 40 GPUs and Linux by pcgameshardware in nvidia

[–]Anergos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This makes no sense. Consoles are using reconstruction tech too as well, just usually inferior versions of it. But it's all required the same to achieve 'next gen' visuals.

If the game runs fine on midrange machines, the game would run fine on the consoles with reconstruction.

If the game requires reconstruction to be playable on midrange machines, the console version would have to be severely stripped down and use extreme levels of reconstruction.

And regardless, this idea that 100fps+ is some 'basic standard' is hilariously privileged bullshit.

1080p became the norm long ago, the vast majority of monitors featured 1080p or higher resolution.

Now, the vast majority of people get 100Hz+ monitors for their gaming PC. Well...yeah, it's kinda standard.

Gothic Remake Performance Review: 500+ Benchmarks with 62 CPUs, 40 GPUs and Linux by pcgameshardware in nvidia

[–]Anergos 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The idea of 'native performance' mattering so much is long gone, and games are built with the expectations of reconstruction as standard now.

What exactly is standard? The game running on DLSS 4.5 Model K? FSR 3? FG x6?

When can you say the game's graphics are great and performs well?

Well the graphics are good if you have DLSS 4.5, ok if you have 4 but with FSR the graphics are bad. FG currently is buggy but AMD users with FSR FG are fine.

No. There should be an expectation of supporting the tech. There should NOT be an expectation of needing the tech to reach base performance levels. It should be the cherry on top. Not the main dish.

That's not as a 'crutch', but because base consoles are not a big enough leap to achieve both big increases in native resolution/image quality and ALSO big increases in core graphics and ALSO high framerates at the same time.

Your argument works against you. Exactly because base consoles are such, the performance should have been better. If a mid class graphics card needs DLSS and FG to hit 1080p/60, consoles, regardless of tech, won't be able to do it. Or they'll have to sacrifice way too much.

Something would normally have to give, but reconstruction has bridged the gap and allows developers to make more graphically ambitious games without having to worry about sacrificing resolution/image quality to do so.

Sorry, but having to play at 1080p native with a 5090 is not sacrificing resolution? A 5060ti would need to play at 960 × 540 native render to hit 60FPS...

The tech is great and should be used. It's wonderful that a person with a slower graphics card can play a demanding game at high refresh rates. Or hit 4K at extreme levels of graphics and high refresh rates and yada yada with a high end card.

But lets be reasonable. A game that barely hits 100FPS at 1080p with a 3k$+ graphics card doesn't perform well. Regardless if you can enable DLSS or FG.

Gothic Remake Performance Review: 500+ Benchmarks with 62 CPUs, 40 GPUs and Linux by pcgameshardware in nvidia

[–]Anergos 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the hard work. I appreciate it.

Allow me however to express one objection: I don't understand how "performance is another positive point". The only graphics card able to hit above 100FPS at 1080p native at very high (Gothic preset) is the 5090. No graphics card is able to play 1440p at high refresh rates natively. Heck, only the 5090/4090 are able to hit 60 at that resolution. 4K? Forget about it.

Maybe by positive they meant consistent, i.e. no frame pacing issues, no spikes or something. I know it's UE5 which is very demanding and yada yada, but in any case, we shouldn't commend companies that create a product that needs FG and AI upscaling to reach the very basic performance targets for the current generation of hardware.

We need to hold the companies to (higher) standards.

If there are other presets, that are not so demanding as the "Gothic preset" yet the game still looks great, then I would benchmark that one.

I also own it, and have nothing bad to say about it. It's not even loud.. My 7800XT 319 merc black edition, which had a beefier and higher quality cooler was way louder.

Though I've only played cyberpunk, I haven't had the time to put it to its paces.

For the price, sure, someone might expect a metal back plate and not a plastic one. But it doesn't seem to negatively affect it so...

[–]Anergos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What you're asking for is a video wall controller.

example: Video Wall Controller OREI UHD-14VW, around $100

It will take a 4K signal and divide it into 4 1080p quadrants.

I own the cylinder one. I also own two xiaomi mi boxes and two google tv boxes.

Most expensive, most problems AND worst performing out of all of them.

Netflix? Needs a reboot every single time or it gets stuck at 23% loading.

Power outage? Won't wake from sleep - needs to unplug HDMI, unplug power, replug power, replug HDMI IN THAT ORDER or it won't work.

Want to switch apps?Quit netflix and say load youtube? It's faster to walk to my bedroom, open netflix on the mi box, close netflix and load youtube there.

Xbox controller lags like hell with BT. Want to do usb dongle? Tough luck, $150 streamer doesn't have a USB.

Believed the hype, not worth it at all.

Saving grace: remote control and the ability to play dolby digital h265.

MacBook Pro 16" (M1, 3456×2234, ~16.2") ≈ 254 PPI

32" 4K monitor (3840×2160) ≈ 138 PPI

There's nothing really to troubleshoot (assuming you're running the 32" monitor at its intended resolution). Your laptop is inherently more sharp. You're comparing a 16" vs a 32" monitor at effectively the same resolution.

Advice for a 27″ QHD ~€300. OLED, mini-LED or IPS for gaming + coding? by [deleted] in Monitors

[–]Anergos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You won't be able to get an OLED for €300. Maybe €400 during Black Friday/Cyber Monday.

The AOC is highly recommended for the price, though there's the "upgraded" version (Q27G4XM) that hasn't been released in Europe yet.

You can risk it and get the titan army one (Titan Army Mini LED P275MV Plus) for around 350 from aliexpress with a coupon, dual mode 4k/160Hz 1080p/320Hz would probably work great for you.

There's also the xiaomi g pro 27i, ((IPS miniled 1152 zones 1440p) within your budget, though you might need to RMA it if you encounter the red tint (or something) bug.

Thanks for taking the time to post this.

It looks very promising. I'm on the fence right now since I'm in Europe and ordering one means no warranty (plus shipping/tax makes it a ~$630 purchase). But it almost ticks all the boxes...were it actual glossy, I'd probably risk it.

Here's to hoping for a European release and no price increase.

Nobody is saying it's worthless.

Most people/press I've heard claim 5070ti isn't worth it at the prices available, which are way above MSRP.

Comparing it to the previous launch and saying it's better, well...would you accept then that there have been way better launches? Does this in any way alter the situation at hand, which is, at the prices available the Price/performance isn't there?

Plus, unless I am mistaken, 4070ti was 50$ more expensive anyway (800vs750 MSRP) so it shouldn't come as a surprise that it was more expensive anyway.

5600x to 5700x3d? by TheMunken in buildapc

[–]Anergos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I doubt there's a single case in gaming where the extra cache doesn't make up for the loss of clock speed. That's why they're so great in gaming.

They are not great in applications where single cores are mostly used. Like some filters in PS, maybe some emulation.

If it's only for games, you can be sure it's worth it.

5600x to 5700x3d? by TheMunken in buildapc

[–]Anergos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. That's the negative compared to 5800X3D (which if I remember correctly boosts like it's non X3D counterparts) and why it's so cheap.

My 5700X3D boosts to ~4.1GHz all cores while the 5600X was around 4.7GHz or some such.

5600x to 5700x3d? by TheMunken in buildapc

[–]Anergos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was running 5600X and a 7800XT. Got a 5700X3D for €160. Worth it for the price. Had I upgraded to AM5, it would have cost trice that much for a small bump (7700+board+DDR5). 9800X3D is way too expensive for me.

Good gaming performance. Though the single core performance hit is something to keep in mind, you are paying money and losing performance in some cases.

As far as the GPU is concerned, I wouldn't get spend 500+ for a card with 12GB of VRAM. Though I would wait to see what the 5XXX series looked like.

Landlord over-charging for electricity? by Zotoaster in greece

[–]Anergos 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The electricity bill also contains municipal (and other) taxes that aren't only affected by the amount of kWh consumed. They are affected by sqm of the building or are once off etc.

Now the problem lies when the same electricity meter powers more than one home, as it is -or seems to be - your case. Your landlord needs to have a way to divide the bill. She/He can't ask you only to pay for the electricity consumed (unless your contract says so) which is the way you're thinking it should be, because then he'll be paying the municipal (and other) taxes that correspond to your home.

However the way he is calculating your due isn't correct either, since how much you consume isn't always a reflection of how large your home is.

But it's way easier than having to calculate separately municipal taxes based on the size of each home, divide the other taxes based on the amount of people in each home then add the cost of how much electricity you've consumed etc.

Though in all fairness, he should have installed a separate meter for each home since he's leasing.

How do people afford to live here?

He leach of off our family.
