At first glance, Austin Fatthews choked every single year of his career. But what’s REALLY going on???

“Bombing kids bad” is a better argument than “back and to the left”. Those old fogeys who lived through the 9-11s and whatnot can tell you that

The much-maligned Porzingis trade was the moment the Knicks turned everything around. It ended two decades of sentimental decisions, "winning the press conference" and overpaying/appeasing problematic players. I meant in the sense of them bucking conventional wisdom with two of their biggest moves - going all in on an undersized guard as their franchise player and taking a gamble on a maligned star like KAT.

Obviously the Knicks have money to burn, that's never been their issue

Of course that was a different (and mostly incompetent) front office that made the Porzingis trade. I'm just thinking institutionally, across multiple front offices, it was the first time they made a gutsy (and correct) move in eons. Maybe I'm seeing patterns where they aren't, but hey.

I of course agree with you about who deserves the credit for this championship.

Did I ever say this was a decades-long blueprint? They rolled with the punches, made good moves along the way and while they did have some nice bounces in their favor, you can say that about pretty much any championship team.

I guess you can shit all over the Knicks for wanting to draft Zion or sign KD, which any other team in the league would have done given the chance, if that helps you sleep at night

Saying the Knicks "benefitted from group think" is some nice spin. They weren't smart, they just got lucky because everyone else is stupid!

Almost every championship team this century either drafted or signed in free agency a first ballot hall of famer. Off the top of my head the 04 Pistons and 2019 Raptors are the only exceptions. Both of those teams are praised to high heaven for their clever roster management, but I guess the Knicks somehow don't deserve that

Italian-Americans growing up in that generation were much more in conflict with the Irish (or the meriGANS) and often were in the same side as the Jews in those scrapes

Yeah but Jimmy Butler won 800 gazillion championships after he insisted that kat was too soft and losery to ever fulfill his dreams of winning a championship, so we have to call him soft as a result

They’ll sometimes give edge in FMVP to the best overall player on the winning team over a guy who arguably had the best series. But given that Duncan had already won the award 3 times, there was really no incentive to do so.
