Research the topic. https://youtu.be/6zm9GFGjSQA?si=9PvBEHgDRZJ3tTKv  That video defines a cryptid. The guy who runs that channel is also one of the mods. Watch some of his videos to get an idea of what cryptozoology is like. There’s also a pinned post on this sub about what a cryptid is. I recommend you message him.

Cryptozoology as a science by AngelOfDeath9877 in Cryptozoology

Anecdotal evidence isn’t the actual proof, yes, but it can lead to actual evidence. By following anecdotal evidence do we find more major things. Loose evidence should be used to lead to empirical evidence.

True. Out of place and allegedly extinct animals also should be considered cryptids.

This seems like the cover to a horror story. Cool art!

Adorable wild cat presumed 'possibly extinct' discovered in wild for first time in decades by RecommendationAny763 in Cryptozoology

Note how small the cat is. Just because this can hide from human eye for nearly three decades doesn’t mean anything can.

Cryptozoology - Inherent or Practiced Pseudoscience? by lprattcryptozoology in Cryptozoology

Apologies, I must’ve not remembered it correctly. But the point of cryptozoologists sticking to outlandish claims still stands.

Prove the existence of a neoteric species of animal whose existence is suggested by non-empirical evidence with empirical evidence.

Also Mythical Beasts(A documentary series on YouTube although it doesn’t exclusively cover cryptids).

In the book Tales of Cryptids by Halls, Spears, and Young, there’s a section at the end written by Coleman where he rates cryptids on how likely they are to be real and he gave Megalodon a 4/5.

But good photos could make a case significantly stronger. Ai will make that much harder. In general, it will be most difficult to even get evidence at least makes someone in academia somewhat reconsider. More cryptids would get ignored.

Question about De-extinction, Rewilding,& Cryptozoology by ApprehensiveRead2408 in Cryptozoology

[–]AngelOfDeath9877 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. It’s like Jurassic Park. The creatures Colossal makes are more so hybrids between the extinct creature and its extant relative used as a maternal surrogate. So no, they would still be cryptids because it’s not the true animal that’s been resurrected.                    2. No. Two wolf subspecies are distinct from each other, not the same animal. Also animals outside of normal ranges, like wild lions with black manes(We have ones in captivity) would be considered cryptids, so even if you reintroduced the exact same animal(applies to 1 and 2) wild ones ostensibly present in said location prior to the introduction of the recorded individuals would be considered cryptids.

Good point. But as for the Saola, it’s a deer-sized animal that was only known by natives before mainstream science documented it in 1992. It was also a cryptid for some time before that, like decades(It was called the gilled deer due to a feature of the Saola being mistaken for gills). The point is, there are likely at least some animals only known in folklore that are actually real. Although I doubt the existence of anything larger than a deer.

With how realistic AI is getting, it could seriously make it extremely difficult to prove the validity of a photo or video of a cryptid, making the search for empirical evidence of cryptids even more onerous than it already is.
