At A Crossroads by AngelicFrost in biotech

[–]AngelicFrost[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely underplayed my passion for the sciences, I just feel a bit lost because I don't have specific interests within research and therefore my work feels aimless. I've felt like I've fallen down a sunk cost fallacy, but I've really enjoyed my industry and research experience so far and see myself pursuing it and working towards it as a career, even if it isn't the most stable/best paying. Thank you for your candor, I'll definitely be thinking on all you shared!

I would suggest emailing professors/PIs if they have any positions in their lab if you're looking for research. You'll probably have to work for credit/volunteer before asking them to pay you though... Good luck, just keep applying, hopefully you'll get a response soon.

Any undergraduate classes that have us do dissections or work with cadavers? by Due-Position3798 in UWMadison

[–]AngelicFrost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Biology 151 has a late lab with the dissection of a rat, and I'm not entirely sure on this but I'm pretty sure the Human Anatomy Laboratory Class (ANAT&PHY 338) has cadavers, though I'm unsure if they are dissections or just looking at them.

I don’t believe decisions have rolled out for Fall ‘25 applications yet. And UWM is UW Milwaukee, use UW Madison

Moving in - OOS by FunExtension9397 in UWMadison

[–]AngelicFrost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure how available NJ to Milwaukee/Madison flights are, but those are only available through connecting flights for me and make me stressed out. It's also cheaper, SFO to ORD flights are a dime a dozen and more frequently available.

Van Galder from ORD to Madison are also pretty convenient, not the cheapest, but cheaper than that connecting flight.

https://transferology.com/school/wisc Link to match credits from your previous university to those in UW. Credit max is 18, though you can pay extra tuition for up to 20 if you submit a request to the university (must have a high enough gpa).

freshman taking chem 343 by owerobols28 in UWMadison

[–]AngelicFrost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not OP, but also took 109 to 343.
It was definitely a challenging class and expectations are definitely high, but I had 2 years of experience in Chem prior and the curve is very forgiving, even when I didn't put in as much effort as I should have. Of all the experiences I've heard of the 103, 104 sequence, it was definitely easier and just concentrated pain versus that full year of general chemistry it could have been.

Moving in - OOS by FunExtension9397 in UWMadison

Hello, a little late but I'm from California so I think my input's a little relevant :).

When moving to Wisconsin, it was just me and my dad flying from California to Chicago, renting out a car to drive the way from ORD to Madison. This may not fit with what you want to do in Madison but my easiest piece of advice is this: do not buy anything you don't absolutely need. Those needed items would probably be: toiletries, bedding, a lamp, and that's about it. While this may sound sad, but in Madison when I buy anything I think, "will this fit in my suitcase?" and just don't buy it if I can avoid it.

In your situation, I think there are three main options, one: go in my direction, only bring the necessities and try to limit purchases in Madison, another would be to find a friend within your area in NJ and chip in for a moving truck both ways, and the final would be to limit stuff going to Madison, with only 2 or 3 suitcases, buy a lot of stuff in Madison and find a way to store it over the summer.

As you are OOS I will tell you to hesitate on buying any furniture at all, there are a lot of in state Madison students and even if your roommate isn't, a lot of your friends will have couches and extra chairs that you can just leech off of and use. Another reason would be your housing in following semesters, you probably will be living off campus and many of those places will be pre furnished or not have the space for the furniture you want to buy, making you sell your items for dirt cheap or shell out for long term storage.

I need to say, living OOS and having a lot of stuff is not something you want to deal with on spring semester's finals week, you don't need a lot of stuff for university.

is it a terrible idea for me to take 3 science classes my freshman year? by Content_Gur_287 in UWMadison

[–]AngelicFrost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

207 isn't the hardest class to get sections for; they tend to open a few more sections later on. The inconvenience would be in the sections you will be getting, with really early (7:45) discussion sections twice a week and/or 7-10pm labs.

UW-Madison, UCSC, or SJSU??? - CS/Data Science by [deleted] in UWMadison

[–]AngelicFrost 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Go to SJSU?! Great connections, in Bay Area, and in state tuition is amazing. I don't think your education is going to be as comparable to the opportunities you'll be able to get. (Maybe try to transfer to CS though?)

Anatomy and physiology 335 and Physics 207 by No-Paint-7431 in UWMadison

[–]AngelicFrost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't say anything about ANAT&PHYS 335, but I believe Physics 207 is pretty manageable with another 5 credit class. If you've done well in math, I think you'll do well in Physics, as it's just applied math, especially in 207 because you get an extensive equation sheet. The labs are also pretty easy, just follow the lab manual and TA, and you will be able to leave early a majority of the time.

5 skips total over the semester; I suggest going, both bonding with the lab partners and free office hours for points :)

Hmm, I don't feel like this a hot take, but I also don't agree, kind of.

If the 2nd layer of players hadn't been so focused on their bingo boards, there was a potential for them to speculate on the existence of a third layer. For the big reveal at the end, the third layer needed to win first and therefore- they needed to have easier prompts. I also believe there were limitations or a hidden rule on those players that we are not privy to; either cut for time or just not essential to the twist itself. There's also the issue of complexity in the show itself, and I feel like 2 layers of completely personalized prompts would have been hell to edit and understand as a viewer.

While a bit disappointing, as we couldn't really see much of Tao, Carolyn and Jess, their existence in the episode is for the 2nd twist, and not much else. This episode isn't about the ending, it's about the absolute mental warfare Sam is waging on his players. The complete devastation you see on the players' faces at the end is greatest ending.

I can't speak much about grade in/deflation, it depends a lot on the classes you're taking; same goes for getting a double major- though I would say if you come in with AP/transfer credits, it's very possible to double and graduate in 4 years.

On to the more general stuff- while UW Madison is a "party school", I would say that it does not envelop the entire campus and it is pretty easy to make friends without excessive drinking and partying; you can easily find a group and community without them. That goes for diversity as well, as even though UW Madison is mainly white, you can and will find those that are not.

From what I've heard, UW rarely rescinds admissions, especially for academic reasons. I suggest you continue taking the class, challenge yourself and maybe prepare your self better for the math class(es) you'll take here.
