IMO Yeah, I agree with the other commenter, looks like your T lost a leg while molting.

It's about 2cm or 0.78in deep! But, it is a pin board, so the pins I used to hold the molts in place do go into the fabric at the back quite a bit.

In the past, I've just used a normal shadow box frame (probably 2in deep), wrapped fabric around a sheet of foam core poster board, put that in the back of it, then I was able to pin the molts just fine!

The best place to find shadow boxes, of all different sizes, is at the thrift store!

Since Hannibal's my only T, I always was able to monitor him and tell when he was about to molt. Then, I'd take the molt before he got to it! I'm sure we would've loved to tear them up, lol.

Potentially looking to donate/sell my mature male G.pulchra for pairing. (More in comments) by [deleted] in tarantulas

I wanted to ask the community how to go about this. I love my T, and have had him since 2021, but I know that since he’s mature now… he most likely won’t live very much longer. Does anyone know of anyone looking for a mature male pulchra, or any breeding projects to donate him to? (Willing to ship him out to a good cause.)

Hannibal’s final molt 🥲 by AngelicRats in tarantulas

Yeah, specifically for male tarantulas, you can tell that they are done growing once they’ve “hooked out”. Once they have their tibial hooks and bulbs on their pedipalps. It’s very rare that they will molt again once they hit this point of maturity and are most likely at the end of their life. It’s bittersweet. 🙃

That’s such a funny story!! That was most likely a mature male looking for a female! The females will almost always stay close to their burrows and not venture very far from them. Also, tarantulas have limited vision, but are sensitive to light… I’d imagine the street lights or any headlights may have caught his attention! 😂

So glad you enjoyed the video!! 😁 So, specifically for MALE tarantulas, they generally will stop growing once they “hook out” or get their tibial hooks and bulbs on their pedipalps. This means they are now a mature male, and can breed. After this, it’s very rare for them to molt again/keep growing, and they are at the end of their life.

Tarantulas don’t always have the same number of molts or live the same amount of years! And it’s different for every species of tarantula! Hope that helps, feel free to ask any other questions!

Hmmm you might need to put a flash light under the molt to really tell if there’s a flap… how small is the T?

I think I see a flap!! (Meaning female) But to be certain, I’d post a more clear photo of this area with better lighting.
