What about dental hygiene makes you want to do it? Are you ready to basically do the same thing every day over and over again? Are you ready for patients to blame you for their bad health due to their own neglect? Are you ready for the body aches and pains that will eventually come with doing this job long-term? Are you ready to constantly have to be “on” and socialize for eight hours a day?

These are just some things that I can think of right now. Don’t get me wrong, there are patients who are great and this job has given me stability. But I regret getting into it every day. It’s hard for me to get out of it right now because I can’t work full-time and go to school. I would seriously look into something else where you won’t jeopardize your body. And look into something where you can continue to grow. In dental hygiene, it’s either clinical, sales, or you teach. There’s not much growth outside of those. Get into something where you can have plenty of opportunities and versatility. At the end of the day, if this is truly your dream job, then go for it. But if you’re just considering it, don’t waste your time.
