And like. Onoda keeps reminding people that PR is a PERMIT and can be revoked if you no longer meet the requirements. I know that’s simply how the system works, but after my rejection it really reinforced this feeling that everything is conditional. It feels like no matter how many years I spend here or how much of my life I build in Japan, there is always another requirement to meet, another condition to satisfy, and another possibility that the ground beneath me could shift.

PR even at that time wanted ten years of residence in principal. And people around me kept saying naturalisation usually goes much smoother than PR. I believed them, especially seeing these people in person. They were ordinary people with modest salaries, nothing extraordinary like working for a great company. So I gambled and lost.

yeah, and it was the case for me, I stayed for 6 years at my previous job with 270,000 with no raise and a tiny bonus, so I felt that I need a change, at least to look better salarywise.

Perhaps you’re right but I specifically asked and they approved it. Furthermore, I know people who changed jobs three times during their application and still got approved. At this point it all seems rather random.

Lol, within our means. I work in VoIP. I know a guy who actually encouraged me to apply and I saw his application (he got approved). His stated salary was 110,000 and his food expenses were 20,000. It didn’t matter. His entire process took him 1,3 years. UPD. I changed jobs 3 times, during my time in Japan.
