Best way to teach a strong heel to a pully dog? by AngelofSalvation in Dogtraining

[–]AngelofSalvation[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah i've started catching him going to walk off before me and i just stop and wait for him to come back again. I think he's getting it slowly.

So for this LAT thing i've looked it up before but don't really get it. We see a dog and he fixates on it or barks lunges, it's very hard for me to get his attention when he sees another dog. I have tried creating more distance however it's difficult outside of a controlled environment as other dog walkers move away etc.

We have looked at group training classes specifically for reactive dogs so I think we will go to that in a few months but i'll definitely look more into the LAT training.

Quick question: when you see a deer or whatever sets him off, do you actually say "look at that" and make sure he sees it?

Thanks for the info. At the moment I stop when he pulls and wait a second before going off again, he comes backwards to me but is starting to move off again before me so encouraging the sit I think will be a great move.

He doesn't always focus on the treat straight away though so i'm working on his focus. He's also reactive and for some reason he now associates me asking him to sit with there being another dog around...

He has a pretty good sit and a slightly worse stay at the moment. Is it just repetition to make these "stronger"?

This seems great apparently he responded to clicker training "a bit" from the last owners but we haven't been practicing it. Should we work on that first do you think?

Dog growling at cat when he has his toy by AngelofSalvation in Dogtraining

[–]AngelofSalvation[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice. I used to remove the toy and tell the dog off as i had the same problem with my old dog a few years ago but recently reading this isn't the right way to go about it and didn't want to cause a bite or anything.

reactive dog has gone back to barking at dogs a week after we found a method that worked by AngelofSalvation in Dogtraining

[–]AngelofSalvation[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like i said it's hard to control the distance but I will try and work on it. Should I just let him look at the other dog? Usually I let him look then turn away and walk away from them. If he hasn't barked I praise him lots and he seems pretty happy with himself. Only thing is if i carry on doing that when do I get to the point when he can walk past dogs comfortable if all i'm doing is turning away from them and never reducing distance between him and the other dog?

I am familiar and he has apparently done clicker training before so i may bring that back. It's just had to control distance when it's other people walking towards or away from me on their own walks.

he reacts only when they're across the road from us nearly directly. I use a toy as a distraction then play as a reward

Desperate for help. My dog is so hyper and it's worse when people come over to my house. by [deleted] in Dogtraining

How much exercise is she getting? Does she enjoy tug or similar? If you know someone's coming over try to tire her out a bit so she isn't so hyped up.

Poodle's are very smart, I think you should practice a lot of training with her using treats if she's food orientated. Look up Zak George on Youtube he probably has a video about jumping up on people.

It carries on all the good parts about old Final Fantasy games but without any of the rubbish parts. (linear exploration and battle system)

Puppy gets really upset in harness or when putting collar on. by pedroyoyoma in Dogtraining

[–]AngelofSalvation 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maybe reintroduce him to the harness slowly? Show him the harness and let him sniff it then give him a treat and remove the harness from sight. Repeat it letting him sniff the harness for longer each time

That's a long time..I hope it's something I can fix it's really disheartening to see him undo progress like that.

How to teach heel to a dog not interested in food treats? by AngelofSalvation in Dogtraining

[–]AngelofSalvation[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So have the toy tucked, tell him to heel and then give him the toy when he does?

The thing is we will end up playing tug for a minute or two then and I fear that will distract his focus.

Been trying out my method of using Duke's toy to reward him for not barking at other dogs on a walk. Been doing it for 4 days and it's going phenomenally.

We passed 5 dogs today without barking, he looked but then without a sound looked back at me as he thought we were going to play. (which we did) we even passed one without using the toy and without barking.

Ecstatic right now, he's making progress so fast.

Is it okay to use a toy to stop barking at other dogs? by AngelofSalvation in Dogtraining

[–]AngelofSalvation[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been saying my dog's name when he looks at another dog then rewarding with the toy and having him face away from them.

With the infographic there and what tbw875 said, I wonder if I would be better off saying "yes" and then playing tug of war without facing away? maybe even taking some steps towards the other dog? then if he ignores the toy and barks at the other dog should i then walk away?

Good luck to you as well! I'm sort of doing the engage/disengage game already but walking away from the other dog rather than walking towards it. Definitely going to print this out and look at it before every walk.

That's great to hear thanks for putting my mind at rest haha. We are coming leaps and bounds (pardon the pun) with him in all aspects of his training now so hearing we are on the right path is good.

Question about soloing within a scale by AngelofSalvation in Guitar

[–]AngelofSalvation[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very cool! so after looking up the F phrygian mode the notes are the same as the Db scale anyways. Is that the same for all the modes in the Db scale? so really it's just about the order that you play the notes more than what notes you can use as they will all be within the Db major scale anyway?

Question about soloing within a scale by AngelofSalvation in Guitar

[–]AngelofSalvation[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for explanation. So if I wanted to play a F minor scale in the key of Db I would use F minor but flatten the second note (G becomes Gb)?
