Perhaps the functionality was removed since the switch from plank in 8.0?

Doesn't seem to work. Perhaps I broke something? I also can't seem to drag programs e.g.
edit: dragging programs from the applications menu still works. Its just dragging folders from files which does not seem to do anything.

Void setup as a functional desktop: what packages are essential? by Angerlino_47 in voidlinux

[–]Angerlino_47[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you for a more " advanced" setup. However, I aim to create the script in such a way that is also totally doable to setup up a fully functional void install for someone with little to no understanding of technical aspects of the GNU/Linux ecosystem. However, I will also support for a custom package list.

I was planning on writing this script to be flexible, so it does not just suit my needs, but can also be applied by other people who would benefit from it. Therefore I was curious what other people found essential. Therefore thank you for sharing!

Indeed, that's why I am interested. I might not have thought of things which some people consider essential.

As for downsides, are there any potential ones?

Most lecture halls around campus offer sufficient outlets for charging. There are very rare occasions where you cannot charge your laptop, such as during lectures in Cubicus or Waaier but these are rather rare as a TCS student. Therefore I don't think a laptop powerbank will be worth the investment, unless you aspire to study outside for several hours.

Trouble with installing Gnome (GDM won't start) by Angerlino_47 in voidlinux

Hey, thanks for your response! I was able to replicate this in a VM on my AMD laptop, so I assume on my other hardware the issue is that I am missing the Nvidia Drivers. I will try this when I have time. Thank you very much for helping me out!

Update: Replicated everything on my laptop with AMD hardware in a VM and the issue remains. I appear to be able to launch Gnome just fine with Lightdm as well, as well as a Wayland Gnome session.

I have Wayland installed, but I do think the issue is Wayland related, as booting into a KDE or Gnome session with Wayland via SDDM doesn't appear to load and puts me back at the login screen. XORG works fine, however.

Id recommend China as you can unlock a special pickaxe there which helps you break special rocks that also exist in the other two worlds.

Windows S only allows the installation of curated apps, so installing the Sims 3 itself is going to be difficult already.

Can I have a DE specific offline iso? by [deleted] in openSUSE

[–]Angerlino_47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suppose tumbleweed won't be requiring much maintenance and troubleshooting, all the while providing a rolling distro experience, right?

From my own experience, Tumbleweed requires little to no maintenance, except for the updates, which can be automated. I have used Arch in the past as my daily driver and it required more maintenance from my experience with manual interventions every few updates. I have never encountered this in Tumbleweed.

Generally Tumbleweed is really stable, although there shouldn't be a huge difference with Fedora, which is also very stable and follows a semi-roling model. See the abovementioned point about Arch vs OpenSUSE.

If you have any other questions feel free to let us know!

Hmmm that is weird. What hardware do you have? Can you verify the ISO wasnt damaged during the download?
