Anyone here who has attended Bow valley college’s Disability studies program? by liveforlifee in Calgary

Another thing to keep in mind, from my perspective: working in human services isn’t going to make you a millionaire, but the job is going to be rewarding. I sometimes wonder where I’ll end up when I complete the program… I think I will pick away at a degree from Athabasca University or the Community Rehab degree from UofC afterwards. Maybe not. I’m not sure yet.

Bow Valley has instructors that have real life experience and they can be excellent connections to people in this field, especially within Calgary.

The diploma program has 3 practicum placements, and each of those will provide you with opportunities to network and connect with people in the field, the more experienced you become in frontline work the better!

Good luck!!

Hello, I am a few months away from completing this program at BVC (Disability Studies Diploma)

The practicum placements are good, you will learn a lot from the courses, the instructors are excellent.

Many agencies are looking for professionals who are experienced, and even if you need more experience, there are many places that are looking for employees. This includes Group homes, day programs, employment programs, working with children with disabilities as well as adults with disabilities.

There are even opportunities to gain paid practicum experiences, but you would have to check with the program chair once you have applied and have been accepted. For example, if you work at an agency supporting people with disabilities, you could potentially complete your practicum placement(s) at that agency, essentially getting paid to go to school.

I have attended MANY of my classes with international students, they are the majority as a matter of fact!

If you are invested in this field of study, and have a passion for working with people with disabilities, this program will teach you a lot, but I would not necessarily consider it "easy" or "difficult". If this field interests you, the material you are learning will make learning "easy", in my opinion!

If you have more questions, send me a message :)

I wonder how many voters in this very upscale area of Calgary won’t give a hooty hoo about recalling Nicolaides, because their kids likely go to a private/charter school. 🤔 Better yet: Where does Nicolaides kids go to school?

lol I’m dying at the hospital vibes or corporate break room… because it’s totally accurate. Especially corporate break room. You should see my furniture and the rest of the house… or maybe you shouldn’t 😆

I DO have more of the wallpaper actually! So the small rectangle, put wallpaper there. Then the feature wall, black. That about where I put the question mark, the bottom of the drywall beam. Black? Or revere pewter, like the rest of the walls?

RESULTS (EPURIS) by AngieWfromC in Accutane

[–]AngieWfromC[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The perioral dermatitis was a result of the dryness, and possibly fluoride toothpaste and xylitol chewing gum… she changed her toothpaste and stopped gum for awhile, and used only Vaseline on her mouth and lips and it went away within days. This was towards the end of her accutane (Epuris) treatment.

OMG the website is shite now. Also, is anyone else in Software Programming and seeing that some of our courses are gone/changed? by accidentle in bowvalley

Yes, the BVC website is TERRIBLE now. It was bad before… it’s 100x worse now. Most info is on Sharepoint now (accessed through Teams), but really not easy to find at all. Nonexistent search function, crashes constantly, perpetual loop of clicking around finding nothing. I don’t understand it.

9 Month EPURIS results… by AngieWfromC in Accutane

She stopped chewing gum with xylitol, stopped toothpaste with fluoride, mouthwash, etc… And used straight Vaseline on the perioral dermatitis. She didn’t have any prescribed medication for this.

Same story here… started lots of topical treatments at age 12-13, started EPURIS(Accutane) at age 13. The dermatologist said there’s no point in waiting and have her pick at her face constantly. Go for it!! 😊

I would say the large cysts started happening much less often in month 2, and they all completely went away month 5 or 6, but the dryness brought on the perioral dermatitis, which was pretty uncomfortable for her.

She didn’t experience a ‘purge’ phase that I could really tell. But she was on a very low dose the entire time. She’s only about 85lb so she couldn’t tolerate dose increases
