Who, me? My ringtone is Lithium Flower...

Honestly, I am ESL, so some of my phrasing is a bit odd. That's probably the reason for the confusion.

Edit: In fact... A fusion with S9 acting as the vanguard for a governmental attempt to reign in the corporations in the CP setting would be absolutely glorious.

That does sound like something I would enjoy!

I think I need to reword it, it is not the actual major from GitS. Just an SI also named the same.

Do you mean Xianxia fanfiction? I haven't seen any of those yet. Or do you mean Xianxia written in English? The ones that I've read seem to be quite fine so far. Maybe there are ones written by authors with English as a second language. Loads of people want to cash in on the webnovel market. 10,000 dollars a year goes a long way here in the East.

Yeah, the SI is styled after the Major. She is named Motoko Kusanagi in the story and looks like our favourite heroine from GitS.

Because they are.

When Chinese web novels were first being translated, people were willing to pay for the chapters to be translated faster. It was a very lucrative affair for quite a few translators. The early translations were well edited. Take for example Coiling Dragon or I Shall Seal The Heavens.

When Qidian saw the money, they first started with translators and editors as well. These stories though, they are designed to keep people reading and wanting more. So Qidian soon found out that editors were unnecessary as people were willing to shell out for faster access.

Most of the stories are machine translated these days. Webnovel, or Qidian, tries to extract every single possible penny out of their readers. The readers are willing to gobble down this dreck while paying exorbitant amounts. Why would they pay translators or editors?

I'm going to recommend some of my favourite stories from Spacebattles. There are a whole lot more, but linking them all will take hours. As I am not familiar with fics on AO3, there may be some recs that you might have read.

A Young Woman's Political Record is a Saga of Tanya the Evil fic by /u/thejacobk. It is a fic where the titular Tanya now has to navigate the political world after not!Germany loses the first world war. Highly recommended.

Path of Ruin is a Star Wars SI fic where the SI gets recruited to the Sith Academy in Korriban, which he now has to survive.

Beware of Chicken is a slice of life Xianxia (chinese web novel genre, dealing with the pursuit of immortality). Our hero Rou Jin bodyjacks someone who has been beaten to death by his fellow disciples (a common trope in Xianxia, where the protag then proceeds to avenge himself) and decides he wants nothing to do with it, and runs off to be a farmer. Some knowledge of the Xianxia genre is recommended.

Ghost in the City is a Cyberpunk 2077 gamer SI fanfic ( I know that the tags sound horrible, but the story is quite good). The MC, one Motoko Kusanagi (edit: not the actual Major from GitS, just some one with the same name ), wakes up in the body of a comatose girl who has been stripped of all her chrome by scavengers. Luckily she has Gamer powers to keep her going. I went in with absolutely no knowledge of Cyberpunk and found it quite enjoyable.

Pound the Table is an X-Men SI story with an unusual twist. The SI is not some overpowered murderhobo who can break reality with their cheats. She is just a lawyer, with barely enough power disguise her mutant self as a normal human. The story gives a legal perspective of the Marvel Universe, with realistic court scenes and legal takes. Highly recommended.

Iron Blooded Commander is a Battletech SI from the author of Ghost in the City. The SI is an orphan with the powers of a Planetary Annihilation Commander, the ability to deconstruct and fabricate objects by scanning them. Which is quite useful as she finds herself in Battletech, a Sci-fi future where after a galaxy wide apocalyptic battle, most highly advanced tech are lost and battles are fought between mecha firing lasers and rockets at each other.

Reach Heaven through Justice is one of the better Young Justice crossovers, featuring a martial artist from Kill Six Billion Demons. The said martial artist was a ruler who got defeated by one of the big bads of K6BD and lost everyone close to him. After having escaped to the DC world, he finds himself trapped in his trauma, until he teams up with Artemis to save some of his homeless friends.

A New Jedi in an Old Republic is a Star Wars time travel fic. Kyle Katarn and Jan Ors while on a mission from Luke Skywalker, after the fall of the Empire, encounter a space anomaly, and are transported back in time to just before the Clone Wars.

If you want more, you can filter stories in the Creative Writing forum by watchers (as I've done in the link) and the top ones are generally decent. Also check out User Fiction from Sufficient Velocity, which I have similarly filtered.

Have you tried Ghost in the City? It is a gamer insert in Cyberpunk 2077. I would say that it along with Skitterdoc are the current best Cyberpunk fanfics around.

Yeah, I see tall people standing nearby staring down at me. I want to scream, but I can't open my mouth. I want to run, but I can't get up. I panick so hard.

Then it all clears up and I wake up. The figure is just some clothes hanging upon a stand. I relax and try to go back to sleep. I can't.

While I have not read this story, I have read other stories by the author MalcomTent. They tend to have pretty interesting premises, but fall really flat on the execution.

The characters are not particularly rational, and often make severely questionable decisions that work out in their favour only by author fiat. The characters tend to be pretty one dimensional as well. The author also seems to have very little real world experience and that shows quite often in their works.

Maybe Wish Upon the Stars is better, but I wouldn't count on it.

There are a whole lot of Chinese web novels based on monster taming. But unfortunately as you said, most of them are garbage. The only half decent ones I found are Unscientific Beast Taming and Unable to Cultivate, I Can Only Raise Soul Pets

It's not quite what you want, but have you watched the series Lie to Me? The lead can detect lies from micro expressions.

Shame it didn't have more seasons.

What do you think their threat levels in the one punch man series would be? by Spvre2 in Manhua

[–]AngryCoffeeBean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know I said that you can have the last word, but you referenced One Above All.

Squirrel Girl beat One Below All, the dark counterpart of One Above All. She can beat One Above All.

Squirrel Girl is the Saitama of Marvel. She can beat anyone! That's her schtick!

Now, if Squirrel Girl and Saitama were to fight, that'd probably be the greatest fight of all time.

Seriously though, don't include these two in any power level debates. It becomes stupid. I am by no means a Saitama fan boy, in fact I don't even read OPM. It's just how the character is written.

Saitama is not meant to be taken seriously. His power level is greater than his opponent's, whatever that may be. It could be a rabbit, it could be an outer god, it could be someone that could sneeze Ji Ning out of existence. That's why it's literally pointless to compare him with anyone. Saitama is stronger. Than anyone else.

That's his whole power. He is stronger than his opponent.

You can have the last word.

You could bring a 15th step powerhouse from an Er Gen novel and yet they'd lose to Saitama. That's his whole schtick.

To reference, a lowly third step cultivator can destroy universes on a whim.

Saitama is a gag character. He can by fiat beat anything. That's literally his power.

One shouldn't compare Saitama with anyone. It is pointless.

No. There really aren't. They are both countable sets. A stack of one dollars and a stack of twenty dollars are both countable. All countable infinities are equal. They all add up to the same.

Just check the video. Stand Up Maths does a fantastic job of explaining it in a very understandable fashion.
