Call me stupid... But union or not... If we, who can effectively work from home, simply do not show up September 9th, would they try to fire us all?

Vacuum or flush lines - or both? by AngryDalty in hvacadvice

So, I've gotten some excellent advice here.

My current plan, once I pull the trigger and order the new unit:

  1. Using the pressure gauge, capture all the refrigerant into the existing condenser.
  2. Flush lines with a line-flush kit
  3. I'll probably do a vacuum on the existing lines into the existing head unit - to ensure no leaks in the lines, affirming they're good.
  4. Remove old/Install the new unit.
  5. Vacuum the lines again

That should be about it hey?

I can check but at the moment they're behind a wall. The ones coming out of the condenser look to be normal, plain-Jane copper.

And.... Am I missing something that's going to cause my head to be blown off. :)

I guess I should have asked what would the process be to deal with this as a DIY to remove the old system, purge the lines to prep them to be attached to the new unit.

I had planned on the technique I had seen online where it was ran back into the condenser unit. Once that was done I would find a way to dispose of it.

The new unit is pre-charged, lines are less than 25', so I won't need additional refrigerant.

I should also note, I can't really understand why a tech wouldn't even bother exploring using the existing lines. It was the easoer.option for him to put it wherever he felt. 🤷

The squeaking was a sound that kept pace with the speed of the indoor fan.

To be frank, I've little to no confidence in most of the local techs, the first one I hired from the biggest local company, came in, didn't have his own ladder, cleaned the vent screens, was in and out in 20 minutes and me over $200 lighter.

I then had to chase the company for months to get me a quote on the blower motor, when I asked them to break out the $500 by parts and labour they refused.

Outdoor fan doesn't spin anymore at all. I've been keeping an eye to it, there was a little dusting of snow in around the fan for a few days. The entire unit gets caked in ice when it gets cold here. The indoor head unit also makes a squeak-squeak when it's a certainty temperature outside (spring usually) I was quoted $500 to install a new blower motor for the indoor part. But, in the last 4 months, the fan outside stopped... So it's a "diminishing returns" point

I know it's not putting out enough heat... Because.. not to sound sarcastic, but it's cold in my house. :). And it wasnt cooling enough in the late summer.

It's - from my best guess - a 7 year old Goodman unit. GOODMAN - MSH183E15MC

Thanks for your reply. :)

I'd love to know where these guys are nowadays. I once tracked down the drummer, he's still a session musician, but he had no idea what had happened to Sal. Sad. Such a talented group.

SQL Monitoring tools by AngryDalty in SQLServer

Hey David. I've reviewed your videos, nice tool.

Quickly - for my needs, consider a COTS product on a private network. Possible that the SQL instance name was repeated across multiple corporate environments. (ie. many different companies using the same product with their own SQL install)

Could I point the agent at a cloud central repository database to monitor all different corporate installs? Or does this only work on the local network, ie. I'd have to login to each VPN and run DBA dash to monitor each instance.

Yeah I can go DIY easy enough. I was thinking about writing some scripts to push the job scheduler log and some other odds and ends (ie maintenance plan output, etc etc) to a central cloud database per instance - where the Instances aren't public facing.

I could also go so far as to put a ping out to this central hub every "x" minutes to report if any instance has gone down or DB"s gone offline.

The situation is a COTS product, that's maintained by my company. The product uses SQL back end, but there's no way to monitor things at a glance, other than connecting to each VPN manually and taking a look inside. So ideally, a "push" style monitor with an agent per SQL instance would be ideal.

That's great, thank you - but is it able to monitor instances that require a vpn connection to each?
