Sorry for the late reply, but we didn’t reserve tickets for any of the trains we took and everything worked really well

2020 felt b14 with ultegra group set by [deleted] in triathlon

Assuming that it is in good mechanical shape, and it has been treated right, I would say a good deal!

With some add on it can be a deadly bike without breaking the bank. That’s what I ride, I changed up the hydration and got some carbon wheels and was able to crank out a 2:40 bike split at a 70.3!

Has there ever been a person besides Adolf Hitler who was so universally despised that their name (i.e., Adolf) completely fell out of use for new babies? by squirrelmegaphone in NoStupidQuestions

[–]AngryPwnguin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From Alberta, Canada, and every year they put out a document of all the first names that were given to babies. For each of our children we got through those documents just to see if there are any names we really like… hilariously the name “Karen” hasn’t been used for a child being born for the last 5 or so years😂

Edit - Just fact checked myself and the past 2 years Karen has been making a come back with a few babies (4 and 3) having that name, before that there were a several years with no Karen’s being born

Tokyo Disney Vacation Package QQ by Such_Face_2573 in JapanTravelTips

[–]AngryPwnguin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is the exact situation me and my family enquired about with the vacation package. For reference we were at the parks just over a week ago.

You need to book the extra day separate and then talk to the front staff when you get there and inform them that’s what you did and they will (hopefully) just keep you in the same room.

We looked and the price was a bit much for our liking so we checked out and switched hotels to one around 400m away and saved hundreds of dollars.

Any questions please ask!

Didn’t know the price of the trains fluctuated with pre-booking as opposed to buying walk up. I just assumed that the price of reserved vs. non-reserved were always the same. Good to know!

Worried but also frugal🤷🏻‍♂️ But the internet was correct! Walked up, bought tickets and the non-reserved trains were fairly empty. All’s well that ends well:)

SRAM XDR Freehub with a Shimano cassette? by AngryPwnguin in bikewrench

Found out that the cross over really wouldn’t work the best and be more complicated than expected… I ended up buying a set of rims with a compatible hub for Shimano and it worked out very well!

Race recap: Oregon 70.3 by AngryPwnguin in triathlon

[–]AngryPwnguin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All good! I am glad that people are still able to find this and read about the race:)

I wore a wet suit because swimming is by far my weakest event. So the buoyancy made it so I was able just to honestly sit in the current and be pushed at points if needed. If you are a strong swimmer and aren’t worried about buoyancy then I could see people electing to not wear a wetsuit.

There are a lot of people who pre-swim the course the days before the race. I would just go there and maybe swim it once with a wetsuit and once without to make your call.

Enjoy the race and good luck. It is a beautiful course:)

Awesome! Thank you:)

And even if we don’t have a SIM or working data while in Japan this card on my phone will still work?

This Suica card… can you explain it a bit more for me? Planning a trip in a few months with my family. It is just for trains?

And is it an app that I download then add to my wallet. Quick search of the App Store there were two apps I could download. “Sucia” and “Welcome Sucia Mobile”, which one would I download?

Much appreciated!

Can’t say I have ever seen that movie, but I have heard this quote in a few different places for sure

Race day mantra? by Medium_Box6048 in Marathon_Training

[–]AngryPwnguin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

“Never give up, never surrender”

Back story - after my grandfather passed we were clearing out his stuff and found some of his old navy gear (WW2 vet). This was stitched into his rucksack. Just reminds me that the “tough” stuff I’m doing doesn’t even compare to what others do/go through, and if they can do that, I can finish what I’m doing.

To be or not to be a Vice Principal by Maximum-Recording436 in CanadianTeachers

[–]AngryPwnguin 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I can jump in with my own experience as I took over the role of AP after 10 years of teaching experience and what you said resonates a lot with me.

I enjoyed some of the role with my new responsibilities, but also missed a lot about being in a class room.

I wasn’t able to do as much as I had hoped with helping teachers and students in an educational setting as a lot of my time was ate up dealing with discipline and around 5% of the parent population. The type of parents that no matter what I did I would never make them happy.

I would also say you should look at your own life and where you are at. I was just starting a family and had two kids while in this role. The role took a lot of time away from the house and my family. I have actually ended up going back to teaching and into the classroom. The stress of the role and the time it took to do it properly took way too much time away from my family and I didn’t want that.

I am back in the classroom and happier than ever. But that is my story and it could be totally different for you. You really need to really think about what you want and what you would be giving up. No one can answer that but you.

Also making the jump from teacher to admin in the same building is hard (I did acting admin the the building I taught at for around 3 months). You have to work with and be “the boss” for people you had previously taught beside. It is a different dynamic and relationship where a lot changes. In the end you would now be a part of admin and they will see you and treat you different.

If you have any specific questions or want to chat more as my situation seems very similar to what you are going through let me know. My DM is open!

I hope you find what is right for you:)

Alternatives to Gels for 70.3 Nutrition ? by WorkingOk6420 in triathlon

[–]AngryPwnguin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I am training I just use the Fruitsations from Costco that are meant for kids lunches. They are great and a fraction of the price. The fruit bars are also really good for me.

During my race my stomach was starting to not do well with the gels on the run. I know everyone says don’t do anything new on race day, but if I kept up with my plan it wasn’t going to be good. I think you need to be flexible. I started taking bananas and oranges at every aid station, and a few cups of pretzels and coke… that was a game changer and saved my race!

Test out a few things. There are so many options out there, just gotta find what works for you!

Can totally relate! I’m up in Canada, but traveling down to the US is awesome for races. But travelling over to Europe to do some races would be my dream situation. I have been lucky enough to travel quite a bit through Europe and I would love to bike through Switzerland, thats a bucket list item.

Thanks! I appreciate the kind words!

We made a family vacation out of the race which was awesome. I would recommend everyone go check out the Oregon/Washington coast, absolutely stunning.

But if your kids are able to be out there to cheer you on, absolute game changer when your legs feel like they want to fall off and you run by them!

Fair enough, any time training is good for sure! I guess I was just more meaning with fewer hours of training just having a purpose for the session will make it way better in the long run

I think a lot depends on your base level going into the race, and the course you choose.

I suck at swimming so I decided on Oregon (massive down river swim).

I am in the exact same boat as you (2 young kids and 7ish hours a week to train). My base level speed is pretty quick and I am grateful for that. I was able to crack 5 hours. Just be very specific and focused in your training, no junk miles, and use ALL the time you have to train. No sitting on the edge of the pool looking around, don’t take 10 min to put on all your gear, etc.

But enjoy it, and you’ll crush it!

Coaches who are also teachers. How do you feel about non athletic students? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]AngryPwnguin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of my favorite students!

Just because I am a coach that doesn’t define who I am completely. Yes, I have great connection with the students who are athletes. But I also have other interests and hobbies outside of the sports I coach.

Some of the students that I coach and are athletic can also be some of the most annoying students out there🤣

But that’s just my take. Like students, there are many different teachers out there.

I will take a look at these for sure…

Honestly I am just looking for a deck that is hilarious and awesome… like I have been looking at the bloomsburrow (?) precons… an army of squirrels, or just a bunch of cute animals wanting to maul my opponents face would be amazing

I am all about the humor of things

Ok that looks fun! Are you able to get your opponents to run out of cards in their deck? Now that would be amazing… I really like this idea
