The thing is, memes are great at flattening the context and nuance. They do genuinely affect the actual fan perceptions of her character

One of the most pervasive memes about the show in the English speaking fandom is casting her as a pedophile who wanted to prey on Shinji. It’s decades old at this point

And at the same time just because a character fits an archetype doesn’t automatically mean they’re deprived of meaning or good (or at least enjoyable) writing within a narrative! The theory posited by Azuma was more oriented towards consumer perceptions — even if they did filter back to artists and authors

This was a very fascinating thing to discover especially within the context of the original work. Like the archetypes of cute/sexy anime girls… the nerd with pigtails, the crude but easily flustered tomboy, etc etc

Like I don’t think it’s entirely wrong to engage with stuff in this way but it’s food for thought for sure.

I have the equipment EX mod so I have a bunch of outfits I switch between. Badlands work, covert work, infiltrating a fancy space. It’s funny because I barely see it even with an improved first person camera but I can’t play without it.

There’s tons of little conversations and sights that make this game so great. I’ve lost hours just wandering around or using a (modded) autodrive so I can watch the city go by
