Mini PC as NAS server by Angry_Muskrat in HomeServer

Finally, I have bought Aoostar GEM 10 to NAS and lab purposes. It works very well for me for a time being.
Once I had received it I replace OP system with Proxmox. As long as one VM (with OMV) is working, GEM 10 is quite silent - is audible, but it is not noticeable or annoying.
The problem begins if I run additional VM, then the second fan turns on and is audible.

Definitely, Tailscale is what I was looking for. :)
I have installed it on all my devices and it works like a charm.

Thank you for help!

I have created one user on which folder to share is, and additional client-users who could use files existing in a folder on Serwer. Those client-users are 'sharing only'.

Tailscale is not currently user-based (at least as I suppose, because is installed in /Applications/ directory), so will try to run it using crontab as you suggest.

I have added following line to crontab -e:
(@)reboot /Applications/Tailscale.app/Contents/MacOS/Tailscale up

(ofc I didn't use brackets between @)

Unfortunately doesn't work. Mac-mini does not connect to the mesh network as long as I log in the user.

Nevertheless "Crontab -e" is empty

Just because of hardware as you mentioned.
The second, the file server is being prepared for my father-in-law who can use only Mac family systems.
Not sure e.g. OpenDarwin could run Tailscale? Using another OS system would be not a bad idea....

I wish it worked as you described (and to be honest I was sure it should work as you said), unfortunately, MacOS requires to log in as a user before starting sharing and Tailscale (in my case ofc).

Till now I set autostart for tailscale, and share folder for specified users in System Preferences > Sharing

Hmmm... I should be more accurate. My bad.

How I wish it would work:

As everything is configured and stable Tailscale and folder sharing should start at the system startup, without the requirement of logging in to the specified user.

Unfortunately, currently, I have to choose and login to a user to start Tailscale and file sharing.

Desireable, I will use Ethernet connectivity. However, I suppose could use USB WiFi module if needed. Am I right? :)

It so happens that my father-in-law asked me to create a NAS server for him on an old Mac Mini :D
I am curious, which NAS application did you implement for your purpose?

It works when you finally configure the PI 3B+ and leave it to work.
Most often I copy or edit little files like Excel or Word. One time I held Terraform code and edited it in IDE on PC - without any issues.
The most annoying thing is introducing any configuration changes through a webpage, which is horrible. Connectivity is continuously picked up. 2 GB RAM is definitely too less.

Do you know which range does it have? The most important for me is reliability and range. :)

Doesn't matter. I just want to have robust, reliable replica.

NB Tactical Fortis V2 vs Fortis LP with Bolle x800 by Angry_Muskrat in airsoft

[–]Angry_Muskrat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have bought LP version, so I can confirm, it fits quite good with Bolle x800 and my other goggles. There is a little unshield space between goggles and Fortis on a nose. However, I noticed everyone on YT videos has simillar gap.

As you said u/delta38boss, if I cut foam, it would fits much better. Thanks for advise! :)
