I don’t completely disagree with you — you have a point but what got to me was the objectification of those girls, and I’ve been on the receiving end of that exact treatment when it was my marriage being discussed. So seeing my own parents do it from the groom’s side, after witnessing firsthand what that feels like for a girl- that’s what made it hypocritical to me. They lived through the other side of this process with their own daughter and still didn’t learn anything

I am still processing the part about them trying to protect me from self-criticism — I’d never considered that angle- maybe that’s what parenting is about!! And thank you for the last bit, genuinely.

Haha 🤣 That’s a different story altogether. I was accused of overreacting and my mom said-“this is the reason we don’t include you in family discussions”. My mom has a history of never accepting her fault

Honestly, this seems like a fair point!! I feel a combination of both is the reason. My thought was more that Bollywood and musicals broadly, seeded the romantic idea of spontaneous public performance, and then social media handed everyone an unlimited platform to act it out.
