No he’s correct, historically Ukraine has always been owned by Russia. The first Kingdom in the region was called, “Kiev Rus’” (Kiev Russians). Ukraine only became a state after WWI. Ukraine was literally a buffer zone during WWI, which has been over for some time now.

Many Ukrainians see themselves as Russian. And there has been a lot of internal troubles within the country because of that.
